Hi yall,
Social Security is a popular retirement program in America today. Workers pay FICA taxes to cover social security and medicare so they can have those benefits in retirement.I am a reverend although I have not gotten paid for it yet.Pastors like myself have the option of being exempt from the FICA taxes if their religious beliefs are against social security and medicare.I think its unfair that I have the option of being exempt but most other Americans dont.So what do yall think of pastors not having to pay FICA taxes???However pastors who opt out have to be real disciplined and invest the tax savings in the stock market so they will have some retirement since they wont get social security.I have been told that the religious belief that social security for retirement is not good stewardship counts as a valid reason to opt out.
