Trump comes out against Florida's abortion rights ballot measure after conservative backlash

Quote:
Former President Donald Trump came out on Friday against a ballot measure in his home state of Florida that would expand access to abortion, after spending a day doing damage control on the issue.

His announcement came a day after telling NBC News that Florida’s six-week ban is “too short” and declining to take a clear stance on a state ballot measure that would expand access to the procedure.

On Friday, Trump said, once again, that women need "more time" than six weeks to decide whether to have an abortion, but that the "Democrats are radical" and he couldn't back the amendment.

“So I think six weeks, you need more time than six weeks. I’ve disagreed with that right from the early primaries when I heard about it, I disagreed with it,” Trump said in comments to Fox News. “At the same time, the Democrats are radical, because the nine months is just a ridiculous situation where you can do an abortion in the ninth month. ... So I’ll be voting no for that reason.”

The proposed amendment would bar restrictions on abortion before fetal viability, around the 24th week of pregnancy, while ensuring exceptions to protect the health of the mother.

The backlash from anti-abortion advocates was fierce after Trump's interview with NBC News, with some warning that the Republican presidential nominee was risking losing support from a key bloc of the party’s base.

Abortion is an extremely volatile issue for Republicans. To see Trump so pushed into a corner that he had to come out and declare his stance on Florida's proposition, and that he came out against it is... Well, it's something that Democrats need to pounce on. This is one of the most foolish things he has ever done. The polls in Florida are showing significant margins of support to make abortion legal in Florida in both political parties.

Trump has tried his darndest to be wishy-washy on this issue. All of us in-the-know, know that it's HIS fault that Roe vs Wade was overturned, but a large portion of the populace pays no attention to politics (and yet votes still) and doesn't know that. Those people are large deciders in our elections, unfortunately. For Trump to take a hard stance on voting here, I hope it blows up in his face. It's unlikely to effect FL, which is a state that is too far gone now, but hopefully it will lose him other states.

EDIT: So, I have been a bit confused on the reporting of this. It looks like he is burning both bridges by voting against the amendment (which the above was talking about) AND saying it's too restricted. Or at least that's what it looks like. I don't think that the Evangelicals will turn against him. They worship him. But it would be funny if they did turn on him over this. I just think that it's likely that they won't believe him when he says this.

Who would the Evangelicals vote for if they turned on Trump at this point because I know it for sure it would not be Kamala so I guess a 3rd Party Candidate from maybe the Constitution or the Prohibition Party or some 3rd party that is pro-lifeI dont think most Evangelicals would vote for the Libertarian either although some might but Libertarians are generally pro-choice so I dont think so.
