As I was reading an article in the newspaper yesterday about some more political b*llsh*t, a thought crossed my mind:

Why not hire a necromancer and find the grave of Guy Fawkes?

Its the american swear filter- they just don't have the huge variety of swear words that us Brits do

Testing...

Hey, how come it censors "f**k" but not "motherf***er"?

I don't know what you mean. Americans have just as many swear words. The filter exists to create a family friendly atmosphere.

I think what Mel meant is that the swear filter misses a lot of British expressions. Can we stop testing the swear filter now please... and no you $!**!@% couldn't get away with it TAFKASH.... :shameonyou:

It's not really that Britain has more swear words. It's that they have different swear words, some of which are unknown to many Americans. Thus, on a site created by Americans, the censor might not censor the British words, because they are unknown.

That's my theory, anyway. Tee hee!

Oh, and I will have no need to use the swear filter, at least until I am much older. I'm too scrupulous for that. :P

(sorry couldn't help myself  )

- edit -

Uh-oh. Had to delete that - the swear filter didn't work as well as I thought...

Nobody is questioning why the swear filter is in place at all Alex- it just seems to censor out what a lot of us brits would not consider swearwords (e.g. h.e.l.l. for example), whilst leaving on ones that are far worse (obviously I can't give examples here cos it is a family-friendly site).

Perhaps we could do with a more obvious smilie for when people are joking since the  doesn't seem to be obvious enough for some????

It don't matter how many words get auto censored its only the bloody obvious ones that most of these twits habitualy use that needs censored automatically, other then that its the people who swear on purpuse that needs to be kept an eye on, because It don't matter how much you auto sensor them they will come up with something new to say that may be as disturbing as a bloody wombats breath after eating a turd donut then fartin on ya. Just maken a point is all.

I don't think its just that Aspergian_mutant I think that cultural differences will affect which 'swear words' are in everyday usage- in the uk its far more common to call someone a twat than a motherf*cker.

Then again, there's all the Aussie swear words.
