UK govt should have been more honest about tax rises

I think Labour would have been better saying income tax and national insurance would have to rise and they'd drop the triple lock on pensions with just an inflation rise rather than the mess we've got now with farmers and retailers complaining about increased costs due to the above inflation rise in the minimum wage, the increase in empoyers national insurance costs and the rise in inheritance tax on farmers.

What do you think?.

Better off how? I think they'd have been pilloried either way to be honest. Most of it is being whipped up by the press, which is predominently anti whatever Starmer tries to do.

I think the Triple Lock should have been dropped, that was Labour cowardice imo but I think a lot of the noise from retaillers is just noise and working people will in the main be better off doing it this way than if income tax was raised.

Farmers I couldn't give a crap about, frankly. The inheritance tax thing is absolutely the right thing to do.

Yes, unfortunately the UK media such as Express/Mail/Telegraph/GB news etc seem to be pretty right wing so Labour would have got a lot of stick but I still think they could have been more left wing and got a decent majority.

A 6.7% rise in the minimum wage and pensions going up with earnings rather than CPI inflation seems unfair to me though. Both on low paid employers such as nursing homes and the working people that have to pay for above inflation state pension increases.
