She seems to make some good points, although I don't pay any attention to various "manosphere" characters--I voted Democratic because I perceived the Democratic policies as being more reasonable (not that I agreed with every little proposal 100%), and I didn't notice any anti-male tinge to it. The Republican Party has a lot of evil women, too. Not just evil men.

One point where I disagree on a Harris proposal: giving $30,000 to first-time home buyers.

While this seems generous, when a seller knows that a buyer has an extra $30,000 to spend, the seller will raise the price by $30,000. The benefits will go to the sellers, and very little (if any) benefit to the buyer.

It was the same situation when interest rates were low: buyers could afford to spend more on a home, so, sellers raised their prices accordingly.

But, actual policy proposals were never discussed anywhere.

CNN spent all day on stories like "the latest poll shows that this candidate is half-a-percent ahead of that candidate in this sub-demographic!" The polls are mostly garbage. I know--I was formerly employed as a statistician.

And, the Fox Noise Machine spends all day on stories like "the woke mob is going to force all of your children to undergo sex-change operations, while illegal aliens are eating your dogs and dating your daughters!"

So, a few men on the internet are having a pity party. So what?

Any narrative from a source labelled "The Man Problem" is certain to contain sexual bias, if not outright misandrous sexism.

Oh, ShoeOnHead is usually pretty fair.

It's because the world is changing too fast for them and they long for the days when men were men and girls were girls. Days that I wouldn't touch with a 39 and a half foot pole. Things started changing for the better in the 60s.

Well, this man definitely didn't vote for Trump, and neither did the rest of my male friends. That said, I think a great many of male Trump voters are younger men who are long on BS and short on smarts. And many of them already could have been classed as incels. That's not to say every straight young man who can't get a woman is an incel; at that age, I couldn't have gotten lucky with the Creature from the Black Lagoon! Rather, I mean those single young men who respond to loneliness and rejection with hatred toward women and the world in general. Those are the "dude bros" who threw their support behind Trump.

And then things changed for the worst in 2015, and has gone further and further down the craphole ever since.

Those of us who have been to college generally know, for example, that tariffs are a bad idea.

Donald Trump is the most successful con artist that the world has ever seen. People with less education are, of course, going to be more vulnerable to his con games.

That attitude makes me wish I could vote for him again.

Must confess the title put me off. It could be that the lady was trying to rouse interest via a misleadingly controversial and sexist title. Well, it might work on some. Me, I'm so used to that kind of thing from dishonest advertisers that I nearly always make straight for the exit door. That and the fact that I usually can't be bothered to watch spoken-word videos anyway, as they very often talk too damn fast for my slow brain. I guess there was something in it about the statistics that say more men than women voted for Trump.

What would be nice is a brief summary of her key ideas, in text form. Or just the one main idea that particularly floats the OP's boat, if anything stands out. That would be much easier.

One main idea is that people with college educations were more likely to vote for Harris. Everyone else pretty much preferred Trump. I guess this was the second video.

She was speaking glowingly of Huey Long, and quoted Bernie Sanders saying that the Democratic Party had left the working class, so the working class left the Democratic Party, or something to that effect.

My opinion is that people of lower intelligence (which might correlate with lower educational attainment) tend to be more visceral in their voting, and to respond more favorably to the ravings of a con artist.

People liked Bill Clinton because he was loud, sexy, appeared "confident", and had a $200 haircut.

Very few of Trump's voters are really thinking things through. "Yay! Huge tariffs on imports, so that I won't be able to afford anything at Walmart! Just so the millionaires can have another huge tax cut!"

Trump also had a strong appeal to the xenophobes.

Maybe the next Democratic candidate has to descend to Trump's level. If there is another election.

Interesting statistic, and I've heard it's true. Don't quite know what it means in practice.

I don't know who Huey Long is. Presumably a Democrat politician. I know of Bernie though - mooted as the most popular politician in the USA. What he said there makes sense to me.

That's a tad too loaded for me to tackle quickly, but there may be truth in parts of it at least.

Quote:

I've long thought that anybody who can give the appearance of confidence has a big advantage if they're after becoming a leader. Loudness always puts me off, but I guess the loud ones get heard more often. It'd be interesting to see a study or two on the impact of superficial qualities on voting preferences. As a fairly thoughtful type myself, I still find it hard to believe that those things carry any weight at all, but it's possible that people don't often have the time to think in much detail, and psychology is a strange thing. De toutes les définitions de l'homme, la plus mauvaise me paraît celle qui en fait un animal raisonnable, as some Frenchman said. Crude translation: Homo sapiens ain't that sapiens. Of course we're perfectly rational especially in this august forum.

I don't quite know what import tariffs will do, but I gather some economists have said that protectionism tends to backfire, and I expect ornery folks will be the main casualties if they do.

Quote:

No doubt, but if I may play devil's advocate here, some of the reservations about immigration have merit I think. If they believe Trump's the only one who's serious about doing anything much about it, that would explain part of his popularity. But I think the cleverest right-wingers like to import cheap labour and then to blame the imported ones for the poverty of the indigenous population. How Mr. T fits into all that, I don't yet know.

Quote:

A left-wing populist would be interesting. Last one I heard of did quite well in local government in the UK, but he didn't last very long. And the UK seems to different when it comes to populists. Boris Johnson probably won't be Prime Minister again.

Huey Long was a left wing populist in Depression era Louisiana. He could appeal even to those who would otherwise vote to the right, even though he was known to give a helping hand to black Americans. That is, those conservative voters would support him if they were poor, because they knew he represented them.
