Oklahoma Election Results 2024
Hi yall,
Trump handily won the state of Oklahoma. Every county went for Trump this year. Not a single one for the Democrat Kamala Harris. However I think Oklahoma County was close. I think Oklahoma has had the Republican win every county in the past 6 elections. I think Oklahoma County may have been close in the last election. The Democrats have a long ways to go in Oklahoma. It would be progress for the Dems if they win even one county next presidential election. I drove through Oklahoma today. It seems like its more progressive on pot and gambling than Texas is.That surprises me. Also I think you can buy alcohol in every county in Oklahoma which even Texas cant say the same thing for alcohol. Pot is banned in Texas too. I dont see a Democrat winning Oklahoma any time soon.I would say Oklahoma is even more conservative than Texas in some ways.

The economies in Oklahoma and Texas depend upon Oil and Gas, which the Democrats have declared war upon in various ways, and the headlines out of California reinforced that impression. There are many other factors involved, but that is the most obvious one, that the livelihoods of many people are tied to an industry which has become partisan.

Good Points. Although I would the Texas economy is way more diversified than it was in the 70's and 80's. It seems like the oil and gas industry may form a bigger part of the Oklahoma economy than it does in Texas. However there are some parts of Texas where everybody is in the oil industry.Interestingly enough price of oil are high many times in Democrat administrations and in Republican ones it can be lower.
It was that way in the 70's and 80's. The oilfield in Texas was absolutely booming in the 70's when Carter was in the White House and the oilfield was basically a ghost town in much of the Reagan years.Ya I am a small business owner with my dad in the oilfield and a lot of people I know voted for Trump partially because of the Green New Deal Policies. However Texas has a more limited impact in its oil industry than some other states because the vast majority of the mineral rights in Texas are privately held.
Key differences:
Texas is far more economically diverse than Oklahoma. We also have a strong tech sector (though they're a huge drag on our extremely fragile power grid--in fact, data centers and crypto mining are driving up demand), and a robust medical sector. Oklahoma is mostly a one-industry petrostate.
Texas is reddish-purple politically. Rural areas are overwhelmingly red (Roberts County, in the Panhandle, is the most conservative county in the U.S.), except for a few areas in the Rio Grande Valley. Of the major metros, only Austin and Houston are solid blue. Dallas and Ft. Worth are purple, both with GOP mayors. San Antonio is purple with an indie mayor. Not sure about El Paso.
Oklahoma is solid red state, and even the urban areas are red. The most well-known Dems in the state are the Boren family, and even they've fallen out of favor.

Although in some areas Oklahoma is more purple than Texas because Oklahoma has dispensaries legal casinos alcohol sold in every county and Oklahoma has more personal freedom than Texas. But I agree with much of your post Tim.
Hello, I'm an ex-Okie. I was born and raised there and only just recently made my escape.
It's a sad place, Oklahoma. I lived near Tulsa in a nice suburb. It's a suburb that has grown rapidly since I was a child. It's practically unrecognizable now, but not in a bad way (well... depends on your tastes, I suppose). However, despite the company I kept trending more liberal/left, obviously the state was the opposite. Even the suburb was the opposite, unfortunately.
I wanted to move from an early age (to New England or to Europe), so wanting to move was not new. Neither was my friction with the state's politics and leadership. However, once the 2016 election happened, it just hit different. Trump, the jerk who boasted about sexual assault, won every single county. The amount of complete and utter disgust was too much to describe. The tension increased as the years went by. In the 2018 midterms a Trump suck-up became governor. In 2020, every county in the state, once again, voted for the sex predator. The 2022 midterms were perhaps the final nail in the coffin for my parents' view of the state, as they pushed really hard for the governor's opposition and were destroyed when Gov BullStitt won handily again. With Gov BullStitt's second term also came Lyin' Walters, who has been a complete and utter disaster. Of course, when Roe v Wade was overturned, Gov BullStitt and the legislation took absolutely no time to take away reproductive rights and health. Being a woman in that state is UNTENABLE. I couldn't do it anymore.
Can I say how utterly embarrassing it was to live in that state and how I am still embarrassed to have come from there? During my trip a year ago to check out specifically where I wanted to l live in my new state, Oklahoma somehow broke national news with one of the representatives threatening to fight a union leader or something in a hearing. I couldn't even get a break when I was on a trip!! Jesus Christ!! And ever since I moved this time, Lyin' Walters has been regularly making the national news with his unconstitutional anti-church state separation and Trump worshiping stunts. Every county once again when to the sex predator, now a confirmed rapist in this last election. It's not my problem anymore. I don't live there anymore. I voted ever since I came of age for the 2008 election.

The one I remember was Tom Coburn, the one who considered Schindler's List to be a "porno". Then there was Jim Inhofe...need I say more.
