Elon Musk calls homelessness a ‘lie’ and ‘propaganda’

This is wrong on so many levels.

Homelessness is not a lie and is not 'propaganda'.

People become homeless for various reasons, including but not limited to the reasons of:

- Poverty
- A lack of a support network (i.e, a person slipping into the homeless cycle because they don't have a family member or family members or friends to back them up in a time of great need)
- Poor mental health
- Drug addiction
- A lack of available, affordable housing
- A job loss that isn't recovered quickly
- Debt

Or in general, a combination of all of these factors.

According to Musk:

"The world’s wealthiest person has repeatedly suggested that he believes the government he will be assisting is behind a global conspiracy to make more people homeless in order to enrich the organizations working to end homelessness."

Considering that a good portion of the people who work with homeless people work for charities or non-profit organizations - his capitalist take on this is laughable. And homelessness doesn't enrich anybody, it usually costs the taxpayer money, not wealthy billionaires like himself.

Most of what Musk comes out with seems to be propaganda, he makes right-wing folk look stupid and especially those who take him seriously.

Well no love for Musk.....but understand people have gone through bad times and deserve some aide. Women with children etc. But where I am have seen a large number men 18-50 , whom..Watched too many movies about hobos
and the like ..And from what I have witnessed.They are into it for the adventure,it appears Which includes property crimes by these same adventurers .The racket was to go through neighbours yards,and learning from their overly permissive parents, who is who , , In my case was targeted because I lived 3 doors down from the house they would crash at,Being a single widow,made my home a target, for when I would leave ,they would go through my property/ home and carry off anything saleable to a pawn shop.And often the more severe drugs show up in these circumstances .And have seen groups of these same people. Congregating next to and behind the local liqour store . Knowing the the parents that support this activity.Have learned the story, that their parents want me to believe ,then found out different from other older people in my neighbourhood,and a few cops.. Meth, severe alchoholism , heroin . Were the standard
for people committing these crimes , daytime they would take turns at the various freeway offramps .
Seperately:
Earlier this year,they announced on the news about a group traveling in vans going from town to town. dropped off at fwy offramps. Then they move onto the next area or City/ State.Collecting money. Using signs saying they need a kidney transplant , or maybe the sign says its for a child or a sick parent....People started following them and reporting this to the news. . Actuallt saw this gang in action ,using the van,going from town to town. (Irony)
Do not get me wrong, I have genuine sympathy for genuine people .

^ Homeless people can become non-genuine people through drug addiction which can induce behavioural and personality changes in those people that have these issues, as well as the challenging circumstances that surround homelessness which make even the best people more prone to bad choices and unethical behaviour.

Homelessness deserves compassionate thought and solutions, which invariably involve time, effort and money to fix.

Sociopathic billionaires don't really understand this sort of thing.

A lot of homeless people also have trauma history, which is worth noting, as that can affect a persons functionality.

Agreed....and sometimes ,it can be a big effort just talk to others , but at a certain age past your twenties if you haven't managed to find a decent social services program or a limited function job answering phones , whatever...You might be suspect. But these around me .. I was made aware of their circumstances .And was made keenly aware, that these around my neighbourhood ,thought of themselves as being adventurous . And might do odd jobs in my neighbourhood. Except one THING , this was used as a opportunity to case a persons home and attempt small talk ,regarding the persons normal habits, So their timing to return, when noone is home or their car is gone. To loot the property . ( personal experience here). And have had people alittle low on cash, that actually were not homeless
but need money and fortunately ,instead of hiring a professional,I knew these peoples skill levels matched the task
that I would have had to pay a business to do the repair .It was like the entire neighbourhood here was being stslked 24 hours aday.But no one would get together to stop it . Until their leader, a ex con died from Alchoholism ,and the mother moved away.

I am sorry that you were affected by homelessness in a negative way, in any case.

If anything, homelessness and the crime that can arise from people being homeless is all the more reason to invest in the prevention of homelessness and to re-house those who are currently homeless, if possible.

They are working on it here....Tiny houses and plenty of programs here, just for the asking .

Truth be told ,, think Musk should be made to be homeless for a few years, So he could speak with a voice that actually had the experience....!

The article I posted is full of horrors. Including mentions of sending homeless people to detention camps or bringing back institutionalization for homeless and/or mentally deranged folk.

His vision for society sounds barbaric. But then, what should we expect from a man who lives in a wealthy bubble?

Isn't Musk technically homeless? I thought he sold his home and just sleeps in his offices on sofa's. I'm sure I read that once.

Homelessness is a tricky field. It ranges from people who lose their jobs and the extremely vulnerable to people who burned their bridges with everyone, including their close family who have been kicked out of their homes, often rightly so.

Elon Musk has little knowledge of homelessness though.
