Inspired by Hank Green's video and Elon being particularly stupid, even by his own recent standards, in the last 24 hours.

First, a retweet: https://x.com/thatsKAIZEN/status/1875296912620056760

Quote:
The Trump felony conviction was politically motivated from the start.

- Trump was prosecuted for the same crime as former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but Trump was charged with a felony, Edwards wasn’t.

- Judge Merchan made donations to Biden’s campaign in 2020 as well as the PAC “Stop Republicans”

- The Trump case was prosecuted by Alvin Bragg, a George Soros backed Democrat

- It wasn’t prosecuted until 5 years after the facts of the case were discovered

This is a last-ditch attempt to weaponize the legal system.

This is dumb for a number of reasons. I'll focus on three... well, there's a fourth as a kicker.

Firstly, yes, it would be better if District Attorneys weren't elected, but in the US they are. Should Democrats be allowed to commit unlimited crimes if the DA is a Republican? No, obviously not. Bragg did, however, show a great deal of reluctance to prosecute Trump, leading to Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz resigning.

Secondly, it wasn't prosecuted for five years because Trump was President for the first two-and-a-half. Beyond that, complex financial crime is something where investigation cannot be rushed - that would deny Trump his right to due process.

Thirdly, while there are similarities between the Edwards and Trump cases, there are also fairly significant differences. Edwards was charged with a federal campaign finance violation, whereas Trump was charged in New York with falsifying business records.

Finally, and here's the kicker - Trump was convicted on 34 counts by a jury of his peers.

Next up, we have a Musk tweet (he's posted variations on this a few times): https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1875247027417976861
Quote:
It is now illegal to show your ID even in local elections in California. The reason they’re doing this is to make voting fraud unprovable.

This is a misstatement of the law - it's illegal for localities to mandate voter ID - and the motive behind it, which is to stop people being prevented from voting because they lack ID.

It's perfectly possible to prove voter fraud without voter ID, as shown by convictions for voter fraud in places without voter ID.

Now, onto the stuff that really inspired this post, an awful lot of guff like this: https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1875150194909823085

Starmer was complicit in the RAPE OF BRITAIN when he was head of Crown Prosecution for 6 years.

Starmer must go and he must face charges for his complicity in the worst mass crime in the history of Britain.

This is, of course, nonsense. Leaving aside "worst mass crime in the history of Britain", which is all sorts of wrong... Keir Starmer was the head of the CPS when they prosecuted the Rotherham and Rochdale abuse gangs! He made the prosecutor who brought the Rochdale case the head of a national taskforce! https://www.theguardian.com/society/201 ... hild-abuse

Musk both retweeted and quoted a post that began:
Quote:
The King must step in .

This calls for the abolition of British democracy in favour of a non-ceremonial monarchy. Dumb on its face- even dumber when you know what happened to the King's father's family when they meddled in the politics of their country. Musk reposted another similar comment earlier in the day.

A response to a nested Tweet: https://x.com/koshercockney/status/1874648337670135930
Quote:
Why were the charges dropped? This was a serious hate crime.

In other circumstances, this could be a genuine question.

The answer is that believing a serious crime has been committed is different from proving who did it. A full statement from the CPS is in the link. They couldn't prove who was speaking.

I'm not charitable about this because a smart person would look this up rather than amplifying it to their followers - especially while going on a related tirade.

some idiot wrote:
Meet Jess Phillips, she is the safeguarding minister. She has refused an inquiry into muslim grooming gangs. Can someone tell her she is supposed to be safeguarding children not the gangs.

Musk wrote:
Jess Philips is a rape genocide apologist

Now, not only is Jess Phillips primarily known for campaigning against sexual violence, but there has been an inquiry already! It published its findings only two years ago! https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... xual-abuse Holding another inquiry is redundant, and will serve as an excuse not to do anything until the inquiry is complete. Better to implement the findings of the old inquiry. (Incidentally, that is a serious issue with the current government, and Britain's political culture more broadly constant inquiries and reviews and strategies and recommendations without enough action)

The decision Phillips made in this instance was to order a local inquiry into a case in Oldham, rather than a national inquiry. This is consistent with the inquiries into abuse in Rotherham and Telford.

What's worse is that Musk knows this, because he'd already retweeted a video of Phillips criticising the government for not implementing the recommendations of the previous review. He is either too stupid to connect the dots or doesn't care about the truth.

The people of Britain do not want this government at all. New elections.

We had an election less than six months ago. The government won a thumping majority.

So the MP Shaun Davis who when leader of Telford Council did all he could to impede investigations into the r*pe gangs operating there, has deleted his X account. Truth is the best disinfectant. They are on the run.

This contradicts Musk's earlier [later in time, but earlier in this post] stated position.

When leader of Telford Council, Shaun Davies (it's in the screenshot bro) called for the national government to run an inquiry into the abuse in Telford. This would have significantly increased the scrutiny his council was under and the resource available to the inquiry. The Conservative government did not want a national inquiry into a local issue, especially with the aforementioned Jay inquiry already underway into the nationwide failings, and so told him he'd have to settle for a local inquiry. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-s ... e-43672779

Finally...
https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1874978009628950699

This isn't factually stupid, I just think it says a lot that despite Musk's constant attempts to keep relevant and purported love of meme culture, he's somehow ten years behind the times, and I want to shame him for having a different sense of humour to me. Shame! Shame! You are a 53-year-old multiply-divorced multi-billionaire CEO father of 12, not a 15-year-old whose parents won't let him watch Mulaney.

Musk has also had a go at Starmer. If we want some rich yank running the UK political system we'll ask for it thanks. His mate Farage can also f**k off.

Yes he can, though even Farage has his limits:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c7ve4m1q42vo
That's right, Musk says that Tommy Robinson shouldn't be in jail. Farage still considers Musk to be "a hero," but admits that some of his ideas are naff. Of course he's not going to be too harsh about a man who might donate a lot of money to his party.

Personally I think the elite these days often say stuff off the tops of their heads. Maybe they've figured out that bad publicity is good publicity, as it gets the brand an airing. Or maybe they're trying to appeal to an uneducated fan-base, like Trump does. Maybe they're just playing their part in the propaganda war between the rich and poor, broadcasting untruths in the hope that enough people will be stupid enough to believe them. Or maybe they're just not very bright. Whatever it is, I've long felt that if you want robust, honest information, you won't find much of it coming out of the mouths of wealthy celebrities, business leaders, or politicians.
