Shareholder Fiduciary Duty Law
Hi yall,
I was watching the news awhile back and the reporter said that there is this law that requires that publically traded corporations on the stock market have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders. Many times this includes making the shareholders the most money possible. However sometimes this causes the corporations to break laws or otherwise do bad things to the rest of society outside of the investors.
This law contributes greatly to mega corps like McDonalds and Walmart not paying a living wage to their workers. Also I would assume this law is contributing to the push towards AI because labor is a major part of many corporations' bottom line.I know I have said that the stock market is accessible to many people but eventually it would be open to less because less and less people would have enough money to invest in the market once AI becomes more widespread. Also this law or laws was a major driver towards us shipping our jobs overseas.
