I used to read about kabbalah a fair bit, recently ive started looking at the I-Ching, the chinese version which has structural parallels to DNA.

yeah, been there did that,
Kaballah was big in the early 1970's, too. and we were into the IChing for ages.

I would say that there have been contemporary attempts to confuse kabbalah for a science. See for example:

But I don't think it's particularly accurate to confuse a mystical system with science. It is an overarching metaphysic, however. That's typically the nature of belief systems. For balance, this is a decent site that's unafraid to mix in critical and comparative observations while still maintaining a positive tone about kabbalah:

Isn't it trendy amongst Hollywood stars to say they are Kaballah? That is, the ones who aren't already scientologists? Btw, don't get me started about scientology.
