look at this site,

http://www.earthday.net/footprint/index.asp

What is your Ecological footprint?

CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES
FOOD 2.1
MOBILITY 0.3
SHELTER 1.4
GOODS/SERVICES 1.7
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 5.5

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 8.8 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 3.1 PLANETS.

I made some errors on my last post (in Socialist Conformist)
I dont eat processed food.

Jeez, Vivi, you are so ecologically friendly. A green plant always needs red roots, doesn't it comrade.

Presumably that figure is generally applicable to a population of 6BN, Cut that number back, and we probably wouldn't have that much to worry about.

I suspect thats wrong, cause I know I use a lot less in some respects. Plus, it doesn't differentiate between processed and packaged food. Packaged, to me, means thinks like Chicken Fillets that you keep in a plastic wrap untill you want to eat them.

I liked this question: "Do you bicycle, walk, or use animal power to get around?" It conjured the image of riding a dogsled across Massachusetts.

Yeah, I could imagine sparks flying, wearing the sled down to nothing, and the dogs dying of exhaustion out here...In February! In the last five years where I couldn't drive, I wished horses were a feasible alternative. I don't think it would have had much different of an "ecological footprint", but at least I would have been able to get aroud alot easier and faster.
