This thread is about the hypocracy of today's overly PC age and how they react to "disability". You go onto myspace or xpeeps and you've got women talking like "oh look at me, I am sooooooooooo open minded because I like men and women", and with everyone looking for any excuse to pull the race card or the gender card...... But, then those same people not only condone, but perpetuate another form of discrimination, one which is still institutionalized into society, against disabled or differently abled people. Being one of those differently abled people, I can not fathom what could be more blatantly hypocritical of society than this. I think it is time we stand up, join hands, and begin throwing some feces back.
I see strong parellels between institutional ableism that has persisted to this day, and institutional racism as has existed in my country's history. The exact same attitude and way of thinking applies here. In fact, "progressive" representation by society when it comes to the disabled, is a sheer minstrel show. I remember watching the democratic primary when they had the lowest functioning, cross-eyed and drooling guy they could find to exploit on national television while they put cards in his hands to read off what they wanted him to say. This is unacceptible, and quite hurtful (seeing as I know I am placed in the same category so it does demean us in a way too).
The sheer fact that they have this attitude like we're not intelligent or independent enough to represent ourselves, so according to them they know what's better for us than we do, hell aspies don't even have a voice in decisions reguarding the societal treatment of autism spectrum conditions. Nor do any other disorders or "disorders". This despite the fact that there are quite many of us who are highly cognitive, independent, determined, conscious people. But those of us do not fit their stereotypes so I guess theyr not interested in us.
