if you never went to church? i would. i would have been much more smarter, instead of having identity crises about the grand scheme of things. i also would have had better self esteem because i wouldnt feel like a dirty sinner. if i ever have kids im going to do them right and never let them step foot inside a discusting church

Good for you! I am much better off away from my nutjob family members who think I worship Satan, or something, because I don't go. My kids are being raised free of all religion, so that they can explore what works for them when they are actually old enough to appreciate, and understand, what it all means.

I don't know. I am not sure that I would have had the natural goodness or strength to keep out of trouble (or avoid suicide) in my teen years if I hadn't believed in God occasionally. And if I'd never been to church or parochial school I probably wouldn't have bought the idea ever, at all. I think there are some very supportive religious communities out there and they actually do quite a lot of good, even if they're founded on a false idea.

I agree, there is not one single religion anyway, there are lots of different ways, and I acknowledge some do humanitarian stuff. I recently heard that the church I used to go, is doing some of it right now.

Now, about if I would be better, hmmm, probably the same, but I'm not sure either, my mom used to tell me that helped me, at least to stay away from drugs and stuff like that, but I don't know really.

you cant WHINE about what happened in your life, it happened because it had to happen.
i know some of us were forced to go, like me, but it didn't made me a catholic at all, in fact it help me find who i am and acknowledge the fact that there is a creator of every single thing that existed/exists/will exist and he gives guidance to men through messengers that come with truth...now, where is that guidance? you'll have to look for it and you will find it like i found my belief system.

without help or recommendations from anyone and just using your own mind.

gee thanks i didnt know i was whineing but ok. it happend because it had to happen? wow. thats like saying someone who was raped,
"oh dont worry and stop your whineing, it happend because it had to happen, now go find your way".
that makes alot of sence

i dont think treacherous teachings are necessary in order for you to apprechiate or look elsewhere to find whatever truth is right for you

i didn't say YOU were whining about it, i don't know why you in particular feel targeted, because you are the thread starter?
it wast.

going to church is not being raped, and why it was necessary at least for me. it made me see one of the options i had, and it wasn't a good one.

I think that if i went to church myself when i was older and ready to make that decision, i would be in a better spiritual place. Don't force your kids to do something because it was forced upon you, DUH!! !

i wasnt talking to anyone, i was talking in the third person.

what happened to me and church...
of course i wont do that to my kids, and of course church is creepy and full of idol worship, but it happened because God wanted to model me a different way. He has a path for everyone.
if it wasnt for church i might have never known about prophets until way later in life, possibly after falling victim of a bad influence which would have taken me to a wrong belief system. i thank God for the guidance.

church didnt make me a catholic. in fact i didnt know i was going to a catholic church until way later i started seeing that other religions existed when i grew up and wasnt painted as something cultural or racial as the people of my culture painted them to be. also the fact that the church didnt focused too much on religious competition, they focused on God more. maybe because it was not in the USA and back in 1995.

Having attended church contributed towards making me what I am today. It afforded me at least some understanding of religion.

It's certainly better than going to confessionals for something you did wrong and repeating the same mistake again because going to make a confession makes it all right again.

I think for church and the lessons imparted in them to mean anything to a person, the person has to go to them with a free will and open mind. Christianity has explained the inexplicable for me and made me feel more centered in the world. I have a greater sense of who I am now and a greater understanding of why I am the way I am.

I wish your experiences could have been more positive and beneficial to you.

Would a terminally ill cancer patient be better off without (false) hope?
