Hm, good article. You know, stuff like this is hardly uncommon, yet all the politicians will still say the parents were doing a good job and it's the kid's fault for not bending over and taking the Christ. Fundamentalist Christianity is child abuse; when are people gonna learn?

No one should be raised in a climate of extremism of any kind, for extremism is not easily gotten rid of. I saw a report on a talk show once about a lesbian who was raised in a very religious home. She had become obsessed with her lesbian orientation during years of trying to eviscerate it, so when she broke finally broke away from her family that was the only identity she had. She was a bitter, promiscuous activist who could not concieve of having any sense of self-worth that was not connected to her sexuality. It is alarming how self-hatred can become preening self-love without a period of relative health in between, and vice versa.
