A person I know is "half-anarchist, half-communist".

How is this possible? Anarchism is an ideology of radical freedom, while communism is an ideology of radical control. Were they mixed, they would neutralize each other out like an acid and a base.

Probably because the end state of communism (small "c"), as defined in the Communist Manifesto, is anarchy. Of course, what Marx failed to understand is that the "dictatorship of the proletariat" by a charismatic figure will always lead to centralization and corruption of power.

True Marxist communism is anarchy. After the transition from capitalism to communism, there is no need for government.

Wiki: Anarchist Communism

This is why I don't like a simplistic Left-Right dichotomy, you need at least an economics axis and state power axis to classify ideologies in a sensible way. Adding a 3rd axis for social-cultural attitudes is even better. So we would have:

Economic Left vs. Economic Right
Libertarianism vs. Communitarianism
Social Liberalism vs. Social Traditionalism

So, according to this 3-axis scheme Anarcho-Communism would go the extreme left wing/libertarian/socially liberal corner

The stereotypical American Liberal would be center-left/state power moderate/socially liberal

A Paleoconservative Republican would be right-wing/state power moderate/socially traditional

A Religious Conservative would be center-right/communitarian/extremely socially traditional

A Right-Libertarian would be right-wing/libertarian/socially liberal

A orthodox Marxist would be extreme left-wing/communitarian/socially liberal
