Im not religious myself but i think aspies can make good religious people in that they are usually dedicated/obsesive of things so it would follow that some of them make dedicated religious people even if i dont agree with their beliefs or faith.

I can't think of a reason that AS precludes a person from aspirations of a religious nature. In fact if a person is a Catholic I would think that AS would lead a person to be a very good nun or monk. Same would be true of Buddhism. Unless, of course, that person were Theravada, because I think that someone with AS might have trouble with going up to people and begging for rice. If someone does not believe that religion can be intellectual that person should read some of the writings of Thomas Aquinas or maybe one of the Reformers like Martin Luther or John Wyclyff (although anybody who studies Luther would probably agree that Luther doesn't appear to be much of a mental giant, just an everyman who came across a good idea and was able to put it into words). And Buddhism doesn't need to be Zen: try reading the Lotus Sutra, or even the Diamond Sutra. The Diamond Sutra is one of the bases of Tibettan Buddhism, for all you Dali Lama fans.

Of course a person can be religious and have AS. There are people on WrongPlanet that fit both of those descriptions.

People with AS can be, and often are, devoted followers of religon. It just comes from a more logical and less emotional place in us, but that doesn't make us any less valid.

I believe that Aspies can be religous.I myself am a Chrsitian Goth.Being a Chrsitian Goth is harder than being a regular Christian but I was still able to do it.

Of course. I have AS, and I'm a Christian.

AS logic often leads someone to be religious. As for me, I'm Christian, but I hope that nobody's expecting me to be anything other than another shmuck that requires salvation.

I think we can absolutely be comitted to religion. I'm AS and a Christian. I've even found that my AS can even be helpful when my interests have turned to things religious. I totally agree with Mockingbird's post though. For me, religion has never been as emotional as others I know. But I don't think that lessens it's impact on me.

It can also make us defiantly non-religious.

Very true. Given the way the society treats us, it makes it really hard to believe in god.
