The internet is a war zone for ideas.

Can this concept allow us to replace and make obsolete traditional warfare? (or reduce traditional warfare)
If it did would this be indicative of progress in human evolution, or would it be no different?
Would it be beneficial to our species?

Personally I see it as a potential from saving our species from self-destruction, as ideas will be fought for on the basis their merit, not upon the military strength or numbers behind those that hold them. Not to mention the potential reduction in the needless killings ... Though that brings up the issue of whether war does play an important physical role in population control.
