I saw a documentary some years ago on either the Discovery Channel or possible the History Channel about *Project Jennifer* which was an attemp in 1974 to raise the wreck of the soviet K-129 submarine which sank a few hundred miles off of Oahu in the spring of 1968. The waterlogged sub proved too heavy for the giant metal cage which had huge metal 'claws' to clasp the sub and lift it off the ocean floor. Whats FAR more fascinating than the attempt to raise the submarine was that it was well within US waters and sunk becaue of an explosion that occured when it surfaced. Whats really shocking is that it may have been attempting an unauthorized launch of its missiles and by either chance or the Fail-Safe mechanism, the launch failed, the missile tube exploded and the sub sank.
