Dear Age1600,

You don't have autism. You are pretty.

Dear Poopylungstuffing,

You don't have autism. You are pretty. You can sing. You are just too cute.

It's time to call out these people once and for all!

(yes I'm being sarcastic.) You see, autism has this stereotype going around that if you are cute, you can't be autistic.

I'm glad no one has seen what I look like then, I'd be 'Autied' for sure...

Gee, I didn't know that autism had a "look" to it. I would love to hear what these people who think autism has a "look" say about it.

Actually, according to Tony Attwood's book on Asperger's, aspies tend to be good looking with symmetrical facial features and an "angelic" quality to their faces. Why this is, I don't know, but it's in the book. I suppose the angelic face could be explain by the "neutral" look we can have.

I think he's describing his experience with patients correct? Could be misinterpreted as all aspies are good looking by some. Wow imagine if an aspie wasn't good looking and didn't have angelic face being told because Tony Attwood's book described a physicial stereotype that didn't pertain to the person that they just must not have aspergers.

the keyword is "tend" so if someone interprets it wrong, it's the reader not the author in this situation.

Honestly the more I read about Attwood the more I think he's just trying to cash in. The doctors at TEACCH never tried to feed me weird quackery like that, never tried to butter me up. Just the facts, thank you.

Not that I think I'm unattractive, I actually think I'm pretty good looking at my current age. But about ages 3-16 I was not, and there was nothing symmetrical or angelic about my face.

No i'm not handflapping or rocking or doing facial jerks or looking away from the camera at the moment, so i guess im not autistic then in those pictures hahaha.

People still stereotype autism and will always to some degree, no matter how much awareness is spread. Not trying to be a downer, just realistic because many people are stuck in their beliefs and refuse to open their minds. But I wonder if people think that if someone just plain looks "spacey" they will think "ahh he/she is definitely autistic"... one time my mother said that about some teenager that looked spacey and my reply to her was, "not necessarily, maybe he is just tired and zoning out because of it.. or just stoned!" Autism doesn't make anyone "look" like anything and I also sure don't have an angelic face! Not that I am unattractive but I don't look angelic, far from it.

My son is supper cool. He is very NT. He has had many girlfriends at every phase of his life so far. All his girlfriends think he is very handsome and cute. Now think of the exact opposite of everything I just said. That would be me, my entire life. Now here is something really interesting, my son and I are almost identical. He is just a young version of me.
