Al-Qaeda. The money the hijackers were paid with were even traced back to them.

Neither it was the National Hotdog Accosiation that did it. By causing the hijacking they will create a war which will then cause national togetherness and on rememberence holidays people will then buy multiple hotdogs.

the term "cause" does not mean the same as "carry out"

Al-Quaeda carried out the 9/11 attack

What caused it is a much more complex geo-polictical confluence of socio-political factors.

So ... the "Who" was Al-Quaeda
the "Why" is far more complex

Please enlighten us. Please do.

I dunno. I s'pose it is possible the government was in on it. I've looked at the various conspiracy theories, and there may be something hookie going on. But it's really hard to speculate what. Kinda pointless to get into specifics of the why.

Unless you are a former CIA agent, and current disillusioned by said three letter agency malcontent, you're just guessing, and entertaining yourself.

QFT.

People don't decide to carry out terrorist attacks just for the heck of it- they had a motive, and understanding those motives are key to preventing further attacks. "Know thine enemy."

Why was America targeted, rather than Britain or France ?
Why were the twin towers targeted ?
Why did those particular arabs decide it was a good idea ?
I could list a million "Why?" questions ... none of which are an answer on their own. That is why I say that the CAUSE of 9/11 is complex.

I choose to agree with this comment. There will be opinions as to who and there will be no end.

Yeah, this place needs more restrictions on the expression of ideas and issues and less restrictions on the expression of personal attacks and insults.

Exactly! :D Now you're beginning to understand our culture.

Seriously though, 9/11 has just been rehashed too many times, and we've got a couple 9/11 conspiracy theorists that it would be best not to set off. But we're more or less self-regulating in terms of topics of discussion- people will avoid topics that have been overdone or are that they judge will be too unpleasant, and then those topics will die.

I was kidding. :)

I understand and accept that some people have a psychological need for more conflict in their life. :)

Who did 9/11

Sorry, that was me. Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I'll tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this one. If anyone had told me that that sort of thing was frowned upon... But anyways, my bad.
