I'm not a big sports fan but occasionally I'll watch a football game. Inevitably at the end of the game interview, the winning team will thank God for the victory. The logical inference would be if God helped team A to win, then shouldn't the losing team blame God for losing.

I'm still waiting for the post game losing team interview. "We're a better team and deserve to win, but obviously God wanted us to lose. For instance when we we're third and long, I should have had the first down but God caused me to fumble. Its all his fault."

I think I've heard post game interviews where a player on the losing team said something along the lines of saying it wasn't god's plan for them to win.

It's all about not appearing to be self-centered and proud.

Athletes that get full of themselves don't engender themselves to the fans watching the game. Humility is the key.

Most likely it's a matter of not admitting they played a lousy game and figured it was God's responsibility.

If God is handing out victories then why train?

A team of fatasses could win the superbowl if they prayed hard enoough, yes?

Well in my case, I've often found it to be the opposite. Most people whom I've come across in having bad "luck" say that god will eventually direct them to an answere or that there's a light at the end of the tunnel no matter the disaster. While I look or try to look at my action from a logical perspective, the feeling seems much more somber than my religious constituents..... :(

Bringing God or fate or whatever into the equation of responsibility is just a matter of ducking out of one's own responsibility for one's own condition. Undoubtedly there are bad circumstances one cannot overcome but in the long run one must take responsibility for one's own life. Copping out is cowardice.

in Africa, it's obvious to everyone that the winning team won becuase they had better juju's and a more powerful shaman. skills have nothing to do with who the winner is.

just replace the juju with god/allah/zeus and there you go. all humans have this ridiculous and annoying tendency (see the "God exists" thread in Random Discussion)

According to wiki... :P Juju is supernatural power attributed to an object. So maybe they have magic boots

Of course...Why do you think the players pray in the locker room before every game? Football is 80% "getting right" with God...everybody knows that. In most cases, the team that is closest to God, so to speak, will take home the game.

sure, anything can be a juju! a dried scalp, a cross pendant, St.Someone's little finger, a four-leaf clover etc. sky is the limit!

speaking of magical boots on the field- in 1998 in Congo a whole football team was killed by a lightning that struck the field. the other team was fine. in this case, it really was the shoes!

The looser loses because he was not up to snuff and made mistakes or because the winner is just more skillful or made fewer mistakes. It is all relative. It has nothing whatever to do with God (assuming that God exists). If God exists He has better things to pay attention than trivial human games.

You know when little children trip over a chair or whatever, and exclaim "Stupid chair!"?

Well, this is a bit like that.
