Now I, have a little bit of a problem-I write, a lot (one of my works will be published-hopefully this year)
in this work-there is a religion, I wanted to gather some inspiration from real life religions
So a first choice, would be Christianity, since many of you seem to know about it
Now I am only seeking to learn, I am not here (or interested) in debating with any of you!

Thank you all in advance

not really a Christian, but if I go to church (and I don't) I go to see a familiar face - God. and i don't get a surreal feeling in church. i feel right at home. like coming back home from college. cuz I've been believing in God since I can remember

The original base of religion and that of science are very similar if not identical. They seek to explain the world and its events in a way acceptable to the understandings of people. Religion is essentially anthropomorphic in that intention is read into events. Science seeks to discover basic natural laws without embodying intent. A different religion might try to seek out different types of intent and perhaps unique ways to perceive this,

That's a bit too broad. I mean, you could just go to Wikipedia and then see if you have any more specific questions. Or (novel idea) you could give the Bible a look. Several different translations of it are freely available over the Internet.

If you're writing fiction, you could try going to some church or other and get a feel for how religion functions in people's lives.

Theology is pretty variable.

First of all I'd suggest to change your perception about all religion. Pretend that you are an anthropologist studying human culture. Get rid of your preconceived notions about Christianity.
Since I know you are a Wiccan, I'd suggest you do some work on releasing and forgiving.

My own personal views on Christianity is that Christian fundamentalism is propaganda created by the Romans as a political move way back when. Jesus was an Essene. They killed him and perverted his teachings since they couldn't destroy the spirit of Christ.

Good luck with your writing. It sounds interesting. I suggest focusing on the homosexual aspect only. It gets so deep. One topic is enough to write an entire book.

It was the dreadful and evil Saul/Paul of Tarsus that perverted Christianity. And then there was John, the antisemite. Christianity got off to a bad start and went downhill from there.

Jesus was a terrorist. What did you expect?

Hm.

Magnus, I question the extent to which you have informed yourself on anything resembling history. Christian fundamentalism as we know it today is a relatively recent phenomenon, not around in Roman times, and there is nothing whatsoever to indicate that Jesus was a "terrorist." Most of his statements come off decidedly pacifistic.

Can you provide a sample of your previous work?

I write, I'm a freelance travel journalist as well as a student. I find it difficult to believe that you write.

The methods you are using are not what I used. For example, I wrote an article on the Zoroastrian religion on citizendium.org (my second attempt at writing) and I read a few acclaimed books prior to writing the article. I also looked for information such as demography from official sources.
