[Removed 43 paragraphs copied and pasted from article cited. Quotations in part of conversation are one thing; copying and pasting an entire article (without citation) with no comments or contribution is not. - M.]

That's great shame as it's a bloody great article. I was attempting to share the information in it's entirety not cropped sections - what would be the point of that unless one was ALREADY in a discussion or maing explicit reference to something?? . In protest at what I see as a heavy handed measure I remove the link too. *Thread dies*

also, as it goes I notice that when people do quotes cropped sections here they rarely if ever provide links to the original - what's up with that??

Is there a topic of discussion here?

Topics are usually entered here for discussion. Am I out of order in wondering how to get a handle on this thread?

A quote is not a discussion; if you want to share news, there is a forum for that... but why should I read something that you can't be bothered providing any statement on? Read a fair amount in evaluating that post, and did not find anything immediately stimulating for conversation.

But it's not 'news' it's a rather in depth MSM portrait of RD Laing. It certainly belongs more in this sub forum than 'news and current events' imho.

Is it not a bit limiting that someone can ONLY post if they attach a formulated tagline for debate? I could talk about this article for hours even if you can't find anything to say from it *shrugs* ;) what's so wrong with just debating the article??? Judging from pretty much every thread here it would invariably develop and morph at it's own pace..

I didn't think any paltry and superfluous statement from me was necessary in conjunction with the article tbh but your point is duly noted. I have, however, already provided a topic of discussion at the request of Sand..

Personally, irrespective of his flaws, I think many of the methodologies he (Laing) proposed and used are still today amazingly progressive - I think that, to an extent, the medicalisation of society has caused his approach to be sidelined in favour of meds far too often. discuss.

Quoting sections to support your arguments are welcome; excerpting the entire article without citation and without comment is rather inappropriate if you want discussion... otherwise, you're just reporting a news article. I'll reread the article and see if I can find more interest in a second glance - thank you for being understanding about the difference between quotation and reproduction.

Your decision; I removed the duplicate and non-original content as the link went to the article at the source.

yes, I didn't see the point in removing the article, I guess.. server space couldn't be an issue considering the amount of threads here.. so, I thought it must have indicated some manner of reprimand; which I felt was unnecessary ergo the link got zapped to follow suit.. :?

Concenik, while fairly new here, you are a valued member. Valued by me. And many others I'm sure. The above short commentary plus the link, is all you would've needed for the OP. And if you wanted to post the first 5 or 6 paragraphs of the article, as well, that probably would've been acceptable. This is way too important a topic--to let it die in OP-birth! May I humbly suggest you try again? I searched high and low for the thread and now realize this is what's become of it.

I need to do some research on R.D. Laing but from the little I know of him, he is definitely one of my heroes. Thomas Szasz [The Myth of Mental Illness] is certainly one of my heroes and it would follow, he was one of Laing's as well. I've lost my notes, but I was concerned about the age and manner in which Laing died. If I recall my figures from the notes I took on the article, he died at age 62 from a heart attack. I wanted to reread the article because I sort of remembered one of his children [a boy?] also died the same way. And one of his daughters died at age 21 from leukemia.

It would be logical that Laing had many enemies, and he may have felt the need to distance himself from his family--for their protection. There may have been insidious forces in the professional arena putting considerable pressure on him to change his ways, possibly to the point of making threats against his family as well as to him.

That article, I believe, was run on Easter Sunday....just a few days ago. The parallels are too obvious to ignore. They crucified R. D. Laing. It would be nice to hear the other side of the story. There are always 2 sides to every story, at least. It was a heart-breaking article.

The article intentionally portrayed R. D. Laing in a negative light and took every opportunity to villify him. This article is uber important to all of us on the spectrum and you can be sure that at least one of us at WP read the article and very much appreciated your link to it.

You know, that's a really good point. I will consider that in the future, and appreciate the feedback.
