If I saw it I could do something, but I've only heard of it.

OK, that makes sense. Sorry if I sounded snappish, but I had hell with bullies when I was a child. Still do if I go back to the old neighborhoods, which is absolutely ridiculous.

High intelligence all by itself makes a person a "target" for bullying.

Nothing illegal about being in a gang.

Just don't draw alot of attention by looking "Gangsta" because the police will be able to spot you easier.

Well my town is too small for gangs. I suppose there could be some organization behind all the meth labs that the police keep busting (the labs are probably the only reason we even have a police force) but that's about it. There's some gangs in the nearby city where I work, but it's not really that serious and the police seem to be on top of it for the most part.

Gangs are a great study in male inadequacy.

Some of those labs are actually put there by "undercover" operatives, who I think of as agents provocateur. Some of them don't have anything to do with the manufacture of illegal drugs, and some of them don't have anything to do with legal drugs. Guilt can be constructed from very thin evidence depending on the laws where you live and the corruption of local law enforcement.

Why do you think drug-traffickers are the good guys? Whose interests are they defending?

Many gangs have this type of initiation ceremonies since modern times.

Females have an other option, they ccan get "sexed-in".

I never lived in an area with gangs but they were always a mystery to me. How do some gangs become as big as they are? And how do they continue to exist? I'm talking about the famous ones. The ones that extort businesses and, presumably, pay cops to look the other way.

They will do one of the following:

A.) Find themselves in severe trouble when they cross a 'real' gang, (IE, Bloods,Crips,FSU, Folk Nation, MS-13, etc, etc.) and quickly discover that they want no part of that.

B.) They will ally themselves with an established gang like the ones mentioned above and get involved in some serious trouble.

C.) They will grow out of it.

I'm willing to bet either 'A' or 'B' will most likely happen.

I have biker gangs with interests in my locality. They own all the nighclubs and erm..the brothels :P They firebombed a tattoo parlour a few months ago, and the flames destroyed about six or seven shops. One of the shops belonged to a client from work.
I also had a friend from technical college who used to go to parties at thier main clubhouse in Sydney (they were very feral parties  )

Cops are relatively clean in my town. The worst example of corruption I've heard of is a star athlete getting let off a drunk driving charge. And the current chief of police was someone who wanted to join law enforcement to protect people, rather then control people. One of the advantages of living in a small town with such a low crime rate is that word of even slightly shady practices travels quickly.

You're remarkably ignorant of gangs. A group beating is a common way to enter a gang. The largest and strongest street gangs in the USA routinely do it to new members.

Drug trade, especially crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana. Likewise, government assists in their growth. Mexican gangs have become more powerful in Indiana thanks to the government of Indiana. In order to "protect" us from methamphetamine, the state government severely restricted the sale of pseudophedrine. Yes, it did make it too difficult for most local manufacturers to stay in business. So the customers just turned to meth imported from Mexico, giving their money to the Mexican gangs instead of some individual redneck.

And now the government is wringing its hands and not able to figure out how it is that gang activity has increased in the state.

Typical nanny-state politicians. They make life more dangerous by trying to "protect" everybody.

That heavily sucks. There is a tattooed Hispanic where I work who thinks he's cock of the walk and I think he's caulk of the walk.
