Several points: we don't know her medical history for sure, and I don't think we need to. This is for the people involved to deal with. As to whether she really needed in vitro or it was a way to have children without dealing with a relationship I don't know. The fact she used in vitro and got pregnant so easily seems to indicate she had no problems getting pregnant in the first place, but that's my thinking. No proof, and it's not the main issue, except it indicates what frame of mind she was in, and it wasn't rational or caring. To put herself and her future children willfully at risk signals something wrong in her thinking. She wasn't thinking of the health or welfare of her children-just her want.
Also, there is only her word how many embryos she was implanted with. We don't know for sure yet how many specialists were involved. Her parents have given conflicting interviews, so who's telling the truth?
There is such a thing as ethics. Of course, Ms. Suleman can do what she wants, but when she willfully and recklessly affects others, the law will step in to protect others from her excesses. Your comment to Mage about treating children as a commodity is exactly what this young woman did. More, more, more!
The death threats are bs, I'll grant you that. That's just a kneejerk reaction. The first thing to take care of are those babies. And so far, they are still in the hospital, where they should be, and probably will be for some time.
The doctors who have admitted to being part of this implantation are being investigated at both the state and national level. Licenses are going to be lost, and fines levied. Hopefully. I would like to see more, but it will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Fnord, you're right. Where's Brittany going bonkers when we need her. I didn't think I'd miss that mess either.
