This made me really angry.

From the sound of it they assumed that his AS would make him lazy and unmotivated.

I'm glad he got a place at Cambridg University. Yay for him.

I found school pointless. I learned more on the computers than I did from the teachers. The highest math I took at school was Algebra 1, but at home I taught myself calculus and trigonometry.

You said that right! I wholeheartedly agree with you. I don't have much formal education in computer science, but I know more than most college graduates do about them.

I was home schooled for most of my life. School was dull, rehashed the same material all the time, and I was constantly pressured to act like a moron 'to fit in'.

I too found school arbitrary and idiotic.
That aside, I must commend this boy for his acceptance to such a prestigious university! Proof that the schools could learn a lesson or two themselves, beginning with tolerance and disability rights...

That was a good article. It made me mad too. The school apologized, but that's not enough. He could sue them.

where was the DDA in all of this?
how can a mainstream school stop an aspie child from going there, when they have been promoting inclusion of people with even moderate-severe disabilities into mainstream for years and closing down needed special schools in the name of inclusion?
it's discrimination, and LEAs are not supposed to leave a child out of education.

It's sad how they judge him off the bat because of what he's diagnosed with, instead of looking over his records. That's awful, poor guy.

It is sad that the school would not take him. I am glad he got into Cambridge as well as learning on his own.

this is weird. what about normal people? theyre just as likely to not attend, or mess up. why not ban everyone who breathes? you never know who will mess up.

Key thing, it sounds like he had a family behind him. His mother really advocated for him.
