The video card in my laptop, if it could be called that, fried on Monday. Dell is promptly sending a replacement part to a local service tech who will replace the part on-site. I suspect it will be a full motherboard replacement given the GPU chip is mounted on the board.

For the last two days I've spent more time reading online than at any other time that I can remember. And reading all kinds of things I wouldn't normally read like Blogs about science, political nonsense, famous homes for sell (e.g. Ferris's friend Cameron), and so forth.

Unfortunately using the Internet in Safe Mode leaves me with limited entertainment choices.

I need my gaming fix!

Ahh! LOL

yup...I'm rated on Dell laptops, you're gonna get a new mobo...;) Depending on the model, it should be done in less than an hour (unless you get a total n00b...;)

you could play at night.

What graphics card was it running? Mine is an Nvidia 7300 SE. I dunno how your browsing in safe mode if the GPU/GC has gone, it's hardware so I would think a fault on it would be active no matter where you are in the system. A software fault would only be active during your Windows session and would probably not be active while in safe mode. I reckon you have a bad driver or some software related to the card, and perhaps not the card it's self. Correct me if I'm wrong of course, I'm only just learning PC/Laptop hardware out of interest.

My GC broke a couple of years ago causing the screen to go dim, this was the case in safe mode, the BIOS and the lot. Don't let yourself get ripped off by repairs you don't need. Also make sure they send you a brand new card and driver setup CD. You can also/alternatively download the driver from the GC maker's website.
