According to that Daily Mail article, she's contracted (along with the other finalists) to do a (paid) tour, they have to sign up for it to continue in the contest...and she's got 3 days to record an album in Europe.

I hope she's having a good rest! I wonder who's feeding Pebbles, the cat.

Now they're going to introduce psychiatric testing for reality show contestants because there's been so many complaints. She does remind me of how someone with asperger's might go on one of those shows, doesn't seem to 'know' what to say or do, how to 'act'.

Good idea, the only problem I see is that many people know how to act NT. Some people even through repeated exposure to tests learn how to answer to get a DX which they want.

I think Gordon Brown was right when he spoke out against some of the misdeeds of the "media people". I think that the answer phone messages left on Andrew Sachs machine were horrible. I think that it was right for Mr Brown to speak out about them.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I'm not usually one to jump to the conclusion that every little thing a public figure does, or doesn't do might mean they have AS. As a matter of fact, the threads about dead people probably having AS (without much of anything to speculate on) irritate me. However, I have to say, from the moment saw I Susan Boyle I did wonder about the possibility of AS. Especially, after I saw one of the interviews she gave. She interpreted the interviewer's questions literally, and had a very limited ability to keep the conversation going in a fluid manner. The way she speaks reminds me very much of myself, pausing a lot, unsure of what to say, and answering in such a concrete way that there's no back, and forth communication, really. IMO, there's more to wondering if she has AS than just her reclusive lifestyle.

I do hope that she's okay, though. I find it sad that she's having such a rough time.

One thing that I've always suspected about these 'reality' shows is that the contestants are probably given scripts to learn. For example when they are asked what it would mean for them to win,all the people seem to answer in a variety of cliches that reflect what the shows' producers would want them to say.
The fact that Susan Boyle has mild learning
difficulties would put extra pressure on her in
following guidelines suggested by the producers.Having said that, she looked genuinely happy for Diversity, who were
the deserved winners in my opinion as well, and her praise for them was sincere even if did seem to include phrases that might have been suggested by the producers to cover such an outcome.
I hope Susan will recover and go on to
be a popular recording artist and performer.

She has a lovely voice. I think she will recover in time and get her career going again.

I think she is having a melt-down from all the pressure and attention. I was watching her video on YouTube and people were saying she didn't win because she has poor social skills and learning difficulties. Allot of them where really putting her down. I don't see why she can't be a singer if she has an ocassional melt-down. Famous singers are always going into the hospital suffering from "exhaustion'' or whatever. I mean just look at Mariah Carey.

To me, she did strike me as AS.

One of the things that particularly made me think of AS was when I saw an interview and they asked her to sing for them, and she went right ahead and sang on the spot and kept singing until they cut her off. They seemed surprised and taken aback that a. she actually did it, rather than modestly refusing (the way an NT would), and b. that she kept going rather than stopping after one line. It reminded me so strongly and vividly of when I was in Primary School and people asked me to sing for them, and I didn't realize I was supposed to act modest and refuse, and I'd just sing at the top of my voice while they had a good laugh at my expense.

If it is true that she had an anxiety attack then it is an abuse of the mental heath act to section her. From the sounds of it was more like a meltdown, but still no grounds to get the police involved.

If it had just been a member of the public she would have been ushered out. Prime of example of milking the publicity. Priory is just a private hospital that aims to extract as much cash out stars as possible.

If she has any sense, and i don't have to watch this crap to realise this, she would know that wining this competition is the worst thing that could happen to you career. It is all downhill from there. The more successful people in things like this are runners up or not even contenders. This has probably been discussed with her in advance.

It does seem like she must be on the autistic spectrum somewhere, even if not specifically AS. It doesn't sound like she was ever diagnosed as such, since they mentioned "brain damage" from being deprived of oxygen during birth, but there are many causes of autism. At any rate, she's definitely not NT.
