I just read on Daniel Temmet's blog that Kim Peek, the autistic savant who was the real Rain Man, died on December 19th. Sad.

Unfortunate and true.

I always find it interesting that Kim Peek is mentioned in relation to autism even though he did not have autism (unless I'm mistaken about that, but Wikipedia agrees with me). Kim Peek should be an inspiration to anyone with any sort of neurologically-based difference or deficit, or anyone for that matter.

That's unfortunate. I haven't heard anything about it before now.

Media never tells anything useful. Anyone with an internet connection knew MJ died within about 5 seconds of it happening, and same with this Murphy chick who just passed. But someone like Kim, who fought his whole life for people to just see him as a person, and you're lucky to even find mention on a blog. THIS should have been front page news, not some crap about a dog's carbon footprint. (I'm looking at you, Yahoo)

That is hard to believe that Kim Peek died. I was just thinking about him too. I always wondered who would take care of him when his father died because I didn't think he would die before his father. I am assuming that his father, Fran Peek, is still living.

Kim was living proof of how little we know of what the human brain can do. In addition he seemed to be a sweet fellow. I am sure his Dad, who is still alive is feeling some pain right now, and I extend my condolences to him

Kim Peek did not have autism, but he was born with Macrocephaly with brain damage and Agenesis of Corpus Callosum. In a 2008 study concluded that he most likely had FG Syndrome.
