Victim stands up to a bully and gets suspended

From one who has been bullied my whole life through school and who really tried all the "appropriate" ways of dealing with it - like telling the bully that what they were doing was hurtful,which only made them do it more; telling my teachers which made me out to me a wimp and a snitch and got me into more trouble: ignoring it which meant the bullies just carried on and never let up, I found the only way to stop it was to stand up for myself and give as good as I got even if it meant I got punished because after a while the bullies got tired of being given a taste of their own medicine. Sometimes I had to hit back harder than they did to get them to stop. I think that until a person has actually experienced the pain they are dishing out they have no idea what it is like to be on the receiving end. I also think that people who stand around and either watch bullying happen and do nothing or worse encourage it are as bad as the bullies - if not worse. So I think that what that big kid did was right. I don't see that he had any other choice.

Wow now he's acting like the victim. God this s**t makes my blood boil . I hope his father realizes that this is certainly not "out of character". There's no such thing as "out of character", there's always a pattern of behaviour. So it's simply a pattern of behaviour he wasn't aware of. Hahaha I did get a nice laugh out of that part where he started crying though, looks like his p**** got sore after he couldn't take what he dished out

What a lying little piece of s**t. I've seen that act before; even as an Aspie I can smell the fake victim-playing a mile away.

Yeah I feel you on that. Hell we should be able to smell it out even more keenly since we're the ones that tend to be the most likely to be picked as targets. If I was this kid's father I would smack the s**t outta him. I'm tired of this "Boys will be boys" crap. More like "Boys will be scumbags if they continue to keep this up".

The parents usually condone this kind of bullying behavior. Remember, someone raised these assholes- they didn't get that way all on their own.

It all comes down to choice. There are kids who become as*holes despite being raised in loving households and there are kids who become decent people despite being raised in abusive households.

I'm not saying abuse has no effect on people whatsoever. Matter of fact, you wanna know how I got diagnosed with AS? In Junior Kindergarten, I flipped on some guy who was picking on me and ended up having him bleeding from his head like crazy. I was then referred to the school psychologist and that's when I got labeled. I'm pretty sure I overreacted cuz of the abuse I went through in my household, but my point is that abuse might make people more touchy but it won't change the core of their personality. It won't make a decent person go 180 and turn into a complete as*hole.

Yes I know you're talking about parents condoning bullying rather than parents abusing their kids, but I thought it was relevant since we're talking about choices vs environmental influences. What I think is that it doesn't turn people 180 in terms of personality, but if as*holes are enabled then they will be lead to believe the consequences don't apply to em and don't matter.

Or maybe teachers and school administration just don't care?

From grades K-8, I spent about 30-45 minutes about once a week in the psychologist's office. Someone found out, told everyone else, and I got made fun of almost every day. Even me explaning myself made the situation worse. Whenever I fought back or flipped on someone, guess who got in trouble?

That almost happened to me because one of these stupid kids who was in the 4th grade tried to choke me (I was in the 2nd grade ) and the idiot guidance counselor blamed me for kicking him once (obviously in self defense) and put me in the same room with as him while she left to go somewhere. Worse has happened to me but this was the most physical attack to me.
