I tried to leave a comment expressing my disgust at their misinformation but it errored and I was too angry to type it up again.

It's not possible that the health services in Sweden are better at identifying autism than those in Somalia, is it?

Yeah, it's ever so slightly obvious isn't it.

I was slightly blinded though by the idea that the reason I have autism is because I sit on my lazy backside all day and eat rubbish.

That's such a stupid article. Autism is a neurological difference that you're born with.

That would seem to be easy and correct answer. A better explanation than thinking Vitamin D, mercury or laziness is the reason

did you read the same text? It talked about vitamin D levels. " while others blame the sedentary habits of western children and modern food habits." That does not say yes learn how to read it says maybe not yes. You put a misleading subject line.

There is no need to be rude. Personal attacks are not allowed on this site.

However, V, even "maybe" is incorrect, bordering on stupid. You could argue that autism causes a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet (although obviously not in every case), but it's fairly plain that the opposite is not the case.

"Keeping an open mind" does not mean "giving credence to every idiotic half-baked idea that comes down the line".

That's what struck me about this article. I know it wasn't the actual point of it, but it is what struck me the most. The implication that autism is self inflicted. As if we don't have enough to deal with, without this type of rubbish being put out there.

The article said nothing about physical activity.

They've changed the article slightly since I posted it. It no longer says that researchers believe autism is caused by vaccines or a sedentary life style. It now says 'some believe' as in, could be any old nutter off the street.

Somalia being a failed state, people there have probably no interest / no knowledge / no resources do diagnose Asperger's. No wonder there are so few down there.

They should compare the incidence levels in Sweden with other sunny, rich countries, like South Africa, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, etc.

-aspergers is at least partially defined in it's relation to society.
-therefore a FAILED state would have no trouble saying 'you don't fit into society? who does? let's attack a french warship with an AK47. I'm sure those duel 50 Cals won't hit us!
