US Ambassador to Libya killed
I am gobsmacked that no one has posted on this story yet.

Both campaigns are tripping over themselves. The Republicans are looking particularly amateurish, but neither side is getting its messaging right:

Meanwhile the odious filmaker who seems to have provoked this had gone to ground:

Though perhaps blaming him might be a premature, at least as far as the attack on Benghazi is concerned:

What amazes me is how those who protest films and cartoons critical of Islam, the fanatical Muslims who burn embassies and kill ambassadors, demonstrate EXACTLY what it is that the film or cartoon points out. If Muslims really want us to believe that Islam is a religion of peace, they need to get their act straight.
On the one hand, I can see the point of not offending someone about their beliefs. There is a line between free speech and hate speech. On the other hand, the crazed Muslim reactions to any criticism seem to indicate they are very insecure about their faith if they feel a need to murder anyone who criticizes it.

These guys are not interested in promoting Islam as a religion of peace. They are interested in punishing the mortal sin of blasphemy.
I think Fat Mike said it best....
From the song Blasphemy (The victimless crime)
....
My position hasn’t been occulted
It can never be more overstated
My intelligence has been insulted
So my tongue lashes out in defense
Anything that is your holy or sacred
I’m gonna desecrate and use in jest
But you’ll never hear a crack about Mohammed
Cuz I don’t wanna get shot in the chest
Blasphemy, isn’t this fun
Rob a rabbi, bugger a nun
Blasphemy, want some more?

Now who thinks letting them overthrow Gaddafi was such a great idea?

Well, supporting despots has not worked that well either *cough* Iraq, Iran *cough*
And who says it is our call, anyway? These people have the right to self-determination.

I wasn't on my computer earlier, and quite frankly I didn't see the point in posting about it.
Thank you for demonstrating why I didn't bother to post anything about this hear.

No, the blaming his is a load of bull****! This attack was too well planned for the video to have been the root cause. I guess a Leftist's first response is to always blame Americans even when Americans are the victim.
You want to know the real reason why those attacks occurred yesterday, it's rather obvious 9/11/2012 + the Al Qaeda number two that got killed a few months ago was from Libya.
This blaming the producer of a stupid video, is just encouraging more bad behavior from a bunch of homicidal maniacs.
The producer of that video didn't torch the embassy, he didn't kill the ambassador, the slimeballs that attacked the embassy are the responsible party.

Believe it or not - - I actually agree with quite a bit of what you're saying, this time.

You are right - it's too much a coincidence that this attack happened on the anniversary of 9/11. And I agree, while the film maker might have been provocative, he wasn't the one who killed four innocent people in the embassy attack.
But the simple fact of the matter is, no one on the American left is excusing this - except in Mitt Romney's ever changing and altering mind. Far from it; the President is sending in marines to stabilize the situation.

Us western kafirs will never comprehend the level of butt-hurt that ensues when the Islamic religion is insulted. It seems like for some of these people religion defines the entirety of who they are. There is nothing else in their small little world.
"Politics stops at the waters edge."
Another American Embassy was bombed in Africa, on 9/11, by an Al Kaida faction using RPGs, Morters, and automatic weapons.
Four Americans died at their post doing their duty.
From prior bombings and attacks we know they are planned months in advance, Libyans have been found in Afganistan, Iraq, now Sryia, where ever Jihad is hiring.
We did kill Al Libyi, and a lot more, and they are being armed and funded by the Saudis. In Libya they were armed and funded by the UK, and France. Besides that they picked up the weapons of Libya when it fell. They have enough to support an army.
Jihadists are a small minority, most Libyans want a democratic state, good laws, just courts, and a better life. Most Libyans want good relations with the United States. A few want an Islamic State, and some want to break away eastern Libya, and the oil fields and refineries, as their private country.
We maintain an Embassy in eastern Libya, to keep it one country, We stand for a Democratic State, in a land of waring tribes.
The majority of Libyans want good government, and a better life.
If someone blew up a few buildings in New York, killed some Americans, that is not a reason to bomb Manhatten back to the stone age.
We will hunt down the people who did this, no matter how long and how much, and they will pay for it. The Consulate in Bengazhi will be rebuilt, staffed, and will continue the work of being a friend of the people, supporting their country, and aiding their quest for better health, education, general welfare, income.
Libyans have gone to that Consulate to get their papers to emigrate to the US, to go to school here, to learn our ways, and to return home to build a better life. We have a lot more friends than enemies.
It is not about the news, who is elected to office, it is a relationship between nations over generations. It is about living our values in a less than perfect world.
We were there before Gaddafi, during, and after, we will survive this, rebuild, and continue.

Freedom of speech is one of our cherished values. There are even many in our country who do not understand that it allows, in fact, encourages provacative dialogue.
Obviously people around the world have trouble understanding why we tolerate some public utterances. We must fequently explain to them that sometimes good things also open the door for bad things, but to distinguish the difference is sometimes difficult.
Or was it merely that Fox News had not yet issued its instructions to shills for the day?
Is that all it will take to silence you? Part of me is sorely tempted to carry on.

So what's your explanation for the attacks in Cairo, then?
Events don't happen in a vacuum. But this is so typical of you--you cannot look passed the immediate transaction to see the larger pattern. You're so focussed on the trees you fail to recognize that there's a forest out there. It's typical of your perspective on fiscal matters, on economics, on public policy and we see it again here.
You have blinders on and you will always fall below your obvious intellectual potential because you have no strategic view of what you want to accomplish.

There are some stories developing that the producer of the "film" was actually a Muslim looking to create an instigation. One of the "actresses" has stated in an interview that the producer told her on set that he was Egyptian, and that he spoke Arabic to other men present. Then the clerics in the Middle East whipped up the crowds by telling them that this "major movie" was opening in theaters all over the USA on Friday to crowds of American who wanted to see Mohamed blasphemed. Plus, there are also reports that Al Zawahri personally ordered Al Qaeda to murder the Ambassador in Libya under the cover of these protests on Sept 11, just after the 9/11 memorial ceremonies in America, to take revenge on the United States for killing Libyan Abu Yahya al-Libi in June by a US drone in northwestern Pakistan. There was supposedly a video released a few hours before the attack where Zawahri called on the faithful to begin their attack and kill the Ambassador.
As things get sorted out in the next few days or weeks or months, and with a little reading between the lines, we just might find out what actually happened, especially now that we have the internet to search.
