I heard on MSNBC that the death count is now up to three. One of the victims was an eight year old boy.

Today was a bad day in America. The victims and their loved ones are going to need our prayers. I do think whoever did this will be caught!

The JFK Library was a simple structure fire.

As for who is responsible, i am hearing everything: Tea Party, Christian Extremists, Muslims, IRA, Basque Nationalists, a replay of Chris Dorner, and a few others.

It didn't look like a big nor particularly energetic device (saw a video of the first one exploding), so probably something small and homemade.

Not that that matters to the dead and wounded, of course, but it can be a pointer for "who" (or "who" it's meant to look like).

We need to take a queue from the British from a time when their society still had their balls:

What happened in Boston is like 9/11 all over again (although on a lesser scale). I can only send my condolences.

Yep, I've heard it all too. Al-Qaeda, White Supremacists, North Korea, blah blah blah, whatever. At this point, it's not important who did it. It's time to mourn.

Likely that it's a domestic sympathizer in response to the transgressions of the US in places like Iraq (though someone without training and/or experience with explosives, as the devices were small and relatively ineffective).

Stolen from elsewhere : 'twitter is at it's best 10 minutes after a disaster, and at it's worst 10 hours after'

The volume of photo's of the wrong 8 year old boy is really quite sad, and must be quite upsetting to relatives that see them.

I know, it was reptilians looking to make lots of fresh graves to tunnel under for food! So far I haven't heard anything about reptilians yet, or the obligatory conspiracy theory of the government controlling to do these kinds of things through psych meds. Until that happens, the story has not officially been fully beaten to death on the internet!

Rule #34 still applies too!

The other interesting thing is that there was a 'lack of chatter' before the event. That suggests this was done by an individual or a small isolated group.

As for the ideology driving the attack, it could be any of the groups named... This week has a lot of significance for right-wingers (patriot day, tax day, Waco, OKC bombing), and for the Islamic extremists any day will do.

Whoever it was, I hope this is not the start of a trend. There's really no way to stop individuals or small groups working in isolation...

I know that a life is a life, but it somehow seems extra terrible that it happened at a marathon. In my experience, marathons are full of optimistic and friendly people trying to improve themselves. Not exactly the sort of people that a hypothetical "Saudi Arabian extremist" would hate. I guess there is no real logic when it comes to things like this.

I hope that the death count is final, and not just the beginning...
