Autism starts in second trimester of pregnancy?

Fascinating article from NBC (US):

Basically, autism seems to be rooted in an identical problem in the brain of the fetus that starts in the second trimester of pregnancy. The affected brains all looked nearly identical, regardless of the range of symptoms the kids showed when alive. This means that, yes, we are born this way. Can it be "fixed"? Maybe, but probably not with technology available in 2014.

So does this mean the word 'congenital' applies to autism? Because a guy once shouted at me for using it in this context (despite the fact that I'm autistic and he wasn't, though he had a sister diagnosed with aspergers).

With all the theories out there, this one is still far more believable than vaccines.
