I am continually frustrated and annoyed by autism researchers announcing "DISCOVERIES!" of things that I could have told them thirty years ago. And I wasn't even diagnosed then.

Of course autism is the result of experiencing the world too intensely - WHAT DID THEY THINK ALL THAT ROCKING AND SWAYING AND HAND FLAPPING WAS ALL ABOUT!?

Idiots.

So why didn't you? I've been suffering all my life for no reason, when you could've explained it all easily long ago?

Because all these "researchers" are making a living ($$$$) proclaiming these bogus discoveries.

So Willard told them years ago but they kept it a secret? This is a conspiracy of the highest order! Must notify the authorities immediately. Autism-gate!

I think that the "Intense World Theory" describes autism pretty well, for the most part. What it doesn't take into account however is that some people on the spectrum, myself included, genuinely become antisocial from years of putting up with stupid s**t like "Applied Behavior Analysis" and other such attempts, professional or otherwise, at assimilating aspies into NT society.

Well cocka-doodle-doo, blablabla, idiot savants.

That's all I got out of that.

This Is Very encouraging. It's so close to how I understand autism in myself and I see that as meaning the scientific community is getting closer to understanding what autism is. Once they do that they can finally start making therapies for us that are helpful instead of hurtful. It's as hard for them to understand us as it is for us to understand them. This is step in the right direction, I hope to see it more widely accepted and applied in the future.

Well, ever since I found out about autism 8 years ago, I haven't heard the term idiot savant being used for autistic people, so it's hard for me to understand what you're talking about.

I found the article very interesting.

Personally, I have never delved too much in to understanding about my autism, I have just always took the bull by the horns and done my best to survive.

This is the first time since my diagnosis that I have ever read up on anything so scientific.

To me it all very much rings true. I completely get it.

I finally understand why I am completely overwhelmed by new environments and why I need a lot of time alone.

P.S. I'm going to see my psychiatrist this month. I think I will mention this article to him.
