A damn shame. He was such a fine actor, and a great comedian. Rest in peace.

Absolutely tragic. One of the few Hollywood talents who didn't appear to operate on ego. And Good Morning Vietnam!! ! was marvellous, unforgettable. There was more going on than despair (I heard) - he relapsed after 20 years sobriety and sank into the darkness and hopelessness from there, (perhaps). And then one day, one moment, he just decided to go. I know that comic genius of his kind often fights this battle with cycles of despair, so maybe it shouldn't have surprised me, but it did shock me, and affects me deeply. There were times when I was in deep cycles of despair, and some of his films - Patch Adams especially - made me laugh and cry and cheered me up. Thanks Robin Williams, for sharing your gift and leaving a great legacy.

Pitty he has passed away, while most actors seem to look the same to me regardless of race / gender / whatever I knew his face. I found him to be a rare thing, that is a comedian who is truely funny.

I did like Mrs Doubtfire but I did enjoy one hour photo which is about the photolab tech from hell, the moment in the film I liked the best was when he was getting angry with the service man who had failed to fix up his machine to his liking.

I believe he wasn't just acting, but expressing all the facets of his personality via characters.

Very sad news. One of the most talented actors and comedians around. His memory will live on in his movies.

Thank you Robin Williams for giving so much happiness despite your private battles.

Arguably the last world class standup comedian worthy of the title genius.

I know Milton Berle had thought Williams was the funniest person alive.

Hmmmmmm... Lately I've been thinking about all the lights in our world increasingly dwindling out.

No one will ever be able to reproduce the light that this comedian has shared with the world.
He was a paragon of sorts now wasn't he?

All the good people are going away.

Such a tragic loss.
Especially significant to me because people have often remarked how we look alike,
though few know that I also share his feeling like you have to always be 'on.'
Celebrity deaths do touch me, but Robin's death has struck me deeply.

Rest in peace, Robin Williams.

Unbelievable. :(

I'll always remember him as the Genie from Aladdin.

Yes, such a gigantic loss, it is very sad and depressing. There is a discussion thread already going on over on the news thread here at WP.

I'd kill to have the talent he had.

Very sad and difficult to take in. I think President Obama summed it up in his tribute -

"He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit".

He was so funny in such as Mork & Mindy and Mrs Doubtfire, but also showed the range of his acting talent in films like One Hour Photo where he played a creepy stalker .
