more guns = more crime
I like this statement
In spite of the right wing’s efforts to keep the public in the dark about the consequences of lax gun laws on society, new studies are emerging. Each new batch of research published destroys another NRA talking point lie, just as the organization and their hacks in Washington knew it would, when they worked to cut off funding for these types of studies, almost a decade ago.
Any wonder Obama is saying Australian gun laws need to be adopted in the US.

I like guns, my husband does not, so I don't have any. I don't see why anybody NEEDS an assault rifle but they are fun to shoot and I know several people who just have them for that and to say they have them. I like to shoot and I have no problem with guns. I grew up around guns and they don't freak me out. It's like that for a lot of folks where I live. You see guns everywhere here. Unattended in gunracks in unlocked pickup trucks with the windows down at Walmart, on people's hips, in ladies purses when they are rooting around for something and take everything out, they are all over the damn place. Above doors, fireplaces, propped up in corners and under car seats and pillows and in bedside table drawers. Other than this last little crime spree my town had (one murder was cause of douchebag and I'm not going into it because he's gonna go to trial soon and I can't) and the other was cause them kids robbed that Dollar store and bought a bunch of coke and got geetered and paranoid, not because there were a lot of guns. If they hadn't shot each other they would have stabbed each other. Everybody in both of these murders had decided to kill the other person first. It wasn't accidental and it wasn't because of the guns. In fact, we rarely have any crime down here because everybody knows that everybody else has a gun and you are likely to get shot. That's why folks don't lock doors here, you don't have to. We have a rifle and a shotgun but no handgun or anything. Everybody has a long gun. Even kids as young as ten cause they go hunting.
So, it's not that more guns mean more crime, I"m a big advocate of open carry because it discourages it. I damn sure wouldn't rob some place if there are already a couple guys in there with guns on their hips. I damn sure won't break in to a house if I think the owners might be home and I know they are armed. I'm not anyway but if I was going to, that would deter me and it deters the criminals here because most go to Tuscaloosa or Birmingham to do their s**t and I know several who do and why they do it, and it's cause they don't want to get shot.
Would I like to see nobody have guns? Yes, I'd like it if no guns had ever been invented or there was suddenly a way to just vaporize every gun in the world and no way to ever make any more. We would all go back to fighting with swords, bow and arrow and hand to hand. I'm fine with that. But there would still be murders cause you can't ban every damn thing. You want to kill somebody bad enough, you will no matter what you can get or can't.
But assault weapons? They are for collectors, target shooters, conspiracy nuts and militia guys off the grid, and gangs. Lets keep them away from the gangs and we will do OK. Personally I think it would be a lot safer if everybody just could buy revolvers. Not even sell speed loaders. It would make a lot less killing per spree, especially if other folks were armed. I'm just saying.

By this you just kinda put yourself in the anti-gun camp.

According to the latest FBI 'Murder and non-negligent manslaughter' statistics ...
California (gun control state) has a 4.6 rate of murder per 100,000 citizens
Texas (gun ownership state) has a 4.3 rate per 100,000 citizens.
So , the Harvard study needs some scrutiny.

I'm for guns along with responsible gun ownership. I have two - a 9mm and a 38 special. I didn't grow up around guns so I treat them special and not like they're a toy. My Ma just got her first gun too about a year ago - we actually went together and both bought our 38 specials from a little shop here called "She's A Pistol". I know I'm small talking, but the reason I brought up this small shop was because about a year after we bought our guns there the owner (who's a woman) had her store hit by four men during the day on a Friday who came barreling into the place, knocked her on her ass by hitting her in the face then managed to shoot her husband. He was able to get a few shots in and brought down two of the shooters. He ended up dying on the ambulance ride to the trauma hospital I work at now and the two creeps he shot ended up getting special treatment with emergency surgery and nice comfy ICU beds and eventually got discharged - alive. The woman who owns the gunshop decided to reopen her store in memory of her husband and it is still open now located right down the street from me.
So, yes, I will always be in favor of gun ownership (all guns) as long as the as*holes are still able to get ahold of them too. I don't care what any lousy statistics say.

No, I'm just being logical. I'm not saying stop selling autos, I'm saying if everybody just had revolvers a lot less people would get killed, especially if most other citizens open carried. I mean think about it, you got six shots then reload. Unless you are a f*****g sniper you won't be killing six people and will be hitting way less, and by that time about three other guys will have opened up on you and stopped your killing spree. You know it's true. I'm not saying make it so, I'm saying that's how it would be.
About the assault weapons, I'm saying thats the only folks I've ever seen with them. Your average run of the mill John ! Public doesn't usually get one. I would like one, cause they are fun as hell to shoot, but I probably wouldn't ever attempt to use it for home protection unless I opened up on somebody outside. I have dogs in the house and I'd be afraid I'd hit them. I'm much better one round at a time.
Also, I have a weird prejudice against autos. I'm afraid of a jam in a bad situation and I'm paranoid about it and would feel much safer with a revolver and some speed loaders. Of course I'd hope I wouldn't have to get off six shots to achieve whatever it is I'm doing, but that's a hell of a lot better than a damn jam which with my luck would happen. I just like revolvers much, MUCH better. S&W model 27 is my fave. Used to have it. Damn beautiful ass gun too, but my husband hated it and we had only recently got married so I got rid of it for him. Oh well.
ETA: Not too long ago, maybe a year ago, some dude opened up in a bar on the Strip in T-Town with an assault weapon. I don't think he hit one person, or if he did he only clipped them. No fatalities and no bad injuries I hear. You know he's somebody's b***h in prison now.An auto doesn't always mean deaths, it could get in the hands of a guy like that.

A person needs more than six shots especially with all the adrenaline pumping - your shot is usually off the mark. Also reloading takes time and if there are several people shooting at you you don't have the luxury of reloading. My revolver only has five shots. That's why I have the 9mm with several 13 shot magazines. I don't want to miss my target. I sure wouldn't be using the revolver for a home invasion.

Crap, I keep losing this when I've tried to post it.
I think if you own a handgun you are morally obligated to learn to use it well under most circumstances and in situations you are likely to encounter where you would have to use it. That pretty much means with your adrenaline pumping. I'd be much more nervous about shooting an auto because I'd be afraid it would jam than I would taking my shot with a revolver. To each their own for guns though. I also think you need extensive practice until you are at least a good shot, if not a damn good one.

Howdy Olive - good seeing you. Back to the guns, I was actually told in class that a persons shot is off when your adrenaline is flowing. I believe that to be true because I know how upset and scared I was when my neighbor came over in a drunken rage trying to knock my front door in. I was shaking like a leaf because you don't want to have to shoot the gun, but you don't have any control what is going on either. I was just shocked it was even happening. A lot of cops don't even hit their mark and they practice a lot. It's not cut and dry like you think and a person wants to think they will be prepared when something happens, but when it does you act totally different. That's why I want several rounds just in case.

I'm not and it doesn't matter what he defines me as because his definition nor anyone else's actually matters. What matters is how I define my own opinions and I am pro legalized carry and ownership. I'm not AGAINST people owning assault weapons, I'm just saying that they really aren't very practical for the most part for home protection unless you live in the Middle East or something. Or you are the worst shot ever and live in a very bad area, so you can just spray in the direction of the robber.
I'm not for banning assault weapons, cause the criminals will still get them. I'm just saying that most people who aren't criminals don't have them except for a few. They are also not really used against all that many people who aren't criminals except in mass shootings and those people would get them anywhere too or just build a damn bomb.
