Right. But it doesn't mean that MEXICO is a s**thole.

It just means that certain PEOPLE who live in Mexico are s**thole types.

That's not most of Mexico. That's a slum in Mexico.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's in Mexico City.

When a term like s**thole is used, that's what it's in reference to. Not places in Mexico people vacation in like Acapulco or Puerto Vallarta.

They usually don't vacation in Chiapas or in Oaxaca (at least the inland portions).

These areas might be poor----but they are usually well-maintained and not slums.

The picture you posted is an urban slum typical of what is found in the "third world."

Then every city is a s**thole by that logic.

When you try to concentrate however many people live there in such a small area you inevitably get something the sort. You'll see the same thing in places all over the world. Humans were meant to be foraging nomads (if we're going by the majority of our history), not living like this...

Personally I find the opposite just as horrifying. A massive, reckless waste of space with dire consequences for their residents wellbeing. But at least there's less trash.

And one of the main causes of the druglords is American drug policy.

Are you saying that the policy should be changed so people can buy things like meth, coke, and Fentanyl like we buy beer and cigarettes?

I wasn't aiming that question at you, I was aiming it at her. She was the one saying that America's drug war was feeding the druglords success.

This hasn't been proven in a court of law or anything....but there is speculation that American interests (e.g., politicians, companies) profit from the Mexican drug business.

I certainly hope this is not actually so.

Obviously there are people who profit. Defense attorneys and drug rehabilitation centers should be an obvious example.

I don't mean those entities.

I mean....that there's speculation that some Americans profit from the drug business itself. Directly. And even participate in it.

You mean like using an importing company to import things like tequila as a front to import cocaine?

Possibly.

Or even participating in the drug business itself through accepting bribes to "look the other way."

Like I said, I have no direct knowledge of this---but speculation in this area is rife.
