I think his timing might be an issue but curious coincidence is the recent disclosure in Washington and NASA over the existence of aliens. There may be two scenarios...
Good news - Aliens have been keeping an eye on us so won't let this happen
Bad news - Aliens are AI

He must be a bit of a numpty for thinking that.

Whenever I think of 'a robot arm' it just makes me think of Howard Wolowitz from the Big Bang Theory and what he did with it

Right. But what is that, exactly?

Examples?

An example you yourself can play with: ChatGPT

I met ChatGPT on Quora. I asked it a question to see what happened. It wrote a very fast, long answer, then said 'for further questions go here' and gave me its website.

It wasn't that interesting tbh.

I'm watching all this and I can't get away from the idea that people seem to be focusing on the 'intelligence' part and ignoring the 'artificial' part.

AI in its current form gives the impression of intelligence by handling so much data so quickly.

A bit like how computers can give you the impression of moving through an entirely fabricated landscape, shooting aliens, by processing billions of 1s and 0s at speeds we can't comprehend.

But it isn't real. There's no 'sense' being made because it has no intention of making sense. It's nonsense, even if it appears to make sense.

I also think that the human brains reading stuff created by ChatGPT etc are doing a lot of the heavy lifting in creating this impression of sense.

Our brains are designed to make sense of chaos. That's why we see faces in the clouds. It's not really there, but we see it.

So when we read an article written by AI, the 'intelligence' part comes from us, not the tech. We're projecting intelligence on to it.

That's why I'm not that worried about AI in its current form.

Which isn't to say it won't get scary if anyone does succeed in creating a machine with genuine intelligence.

What ChatGPT does not have. It just has "intel", data. Or at least, this is what we are told and this is what we see in the ChatGPT Public release.

1h 56mins. 8O

Is this really worth a 2 hour listen? :?

As for AI taking over in general.. maybe that's not such a bad thing - depends on the data and the decisions made. I read some post on the internet years ago from "time travellers," (likely very clever fiction - well written) who claimed to have travelled to the future and back. They said that after a great war (WW3? 4?) that the world is governed by a network of supercomputers that distribute all resources as needed, creating peace amongst humans because there's no longer any fighting over energy, food, drugs, water etc. Everyone has everything they need and nothing goes to waste because computers manage everything in perfect balance. If something like that were done, while also considering the Earth's natural balances of e v e r y t h i n g (renewable resources etc) then maybe it'd be a really good thing that AI took over the job because humans are pretty s**t at it.

I let it play in the background. Listened to it, but not ultra closely. It wasn't terrible, but kinda glad I didn't fully dedicate 2 hours to it.. there wasn't really much said in 2 hours that wasn't in the thread title and OP. Meh.

GPT? Surely you jest. That thing can can barely produce strings of sentences above world salad.

There might be some secret Ai "supermind" lurking in some corporate basement somewhere, but it sure as shitzus ain't the same GPT that released to the public. They can barely even afford the rupees to keep the lights on.

According to Mo Gawdat the problem is the tipping point where the AI > humans in terms of intelligence and decides that it knows what is in our best interests.

The problem isn't intelligence, the problem is if Ai becomes able to interact with the physical world and self-replicate. An Ai with 10 less IQ than a human would still be a problem in that way. Similarly, if a "supermind" had no way to interact with the physical world it wouldn't be a problem.

It's currently being used by 3 out of 4 university student assignments in 2023. Sometimes you can pick it. A lot of the time you can't.

AI is smart, but not THAT smart. I tried it many times and it lacks lots of knowledge as soon as it get harder questions. My hope for AI is strictly for medicine mostly, that I can see huge benefits. But when it comes to creativity, writing etc, AI at this time isn´t that smart, it gives very similar responds to a lot.

I would love to see someone make a new movie about how all the AI's from different corporations go to war with each other to achieve world-wide capitalistic dominance.
It would be a comedy of course.
The movie should give the AI's human traits so we could identify with them.

Apple has Siri who teams up with Amazon's Alexa to fight the male AI's; Watson from IBM, X from Tesla. The big AI on the block would be Microsoft's AI named Max Headroom. He would be afflicted with the same spastic-jerky movements that it couldn't control just like in the original 1985 movie.

The movie would show how the AI's would lie to and manipulate the human population to get them to support their cause (total lies). The movie would show how narcisstic and cruel the AI's are because that's the way the corporations design them so they'll make the most profits.

Watson would throw out Jeopardy phrases like "I'll take Manhattan for $100".
Alexa would only say things through a child's smart speaker with floppy ears.
Siri would always apologize for failing to mention details of her war plans that would cost a lot more than her original price quote.

The moral of the story would be like "The Wizard of Oz"; We didn't need to build all of these AI because we've always been smart enough just like we are.

That sure sounds like a movie. But I disagree with the conclusion, its clear that humans are incompetent and unfit to create a world without suffering, without some kind of extra help.

I can detect something written by GPT3 a mile away. And yeah maybe word-salad wasn't the best descriptor, because GPT3 writes good poetry and its not the same kind of word salad as earlier language models. What I meant is that GPT3 is often logically and mathematically incoherent and outputs rubbish. It just mashes things together based on probability instead of actually understanding the data samples it pulls from.

I looked up where authors make AI write romantic or sex scenes. If you want to have a good laugh, just read those blogs. They are absolutely hilarious!

Although modern AIs refuse to write sex scenes, they say they aren't allowed to

Yes, all going by the plan. Humans will create their own ending, if left to their own means.

It's kind of inevitable. We will either:

1. Suffer another pandemic which is far worse than covid. If something like Ebola becomes airborne, we're fvcked.
2. There will be a big climate change event which devastates the Earth.
3. AI will make strides in becoming sentient, decide humans are inefficient and eradicate us.
4. Some dictator will flip his lid and set off a nuclear attack, destroying part or all of the planet.
5. There is always the possibility that actual aliens will turn up one day and take over Earth, you never know.

However, some good news. NASA can apparently detect, blow up or push off course any meteors coming our way, in a safe manner. So Don't Look Up is unlikely to happen. Yay!

All the above....we are doomed.... ....Our AI overlords will help us if they want us to still provide intelligent programming. For their conquest of humanity ......! 8O 8O :ninja: Am purchasing a large tract of Land in Wyoming as a Hideout ... With a big rock on it ... which i may run too>>>>>>>>and hide under,in the event of an Event . 8O

Can we come, Jakki? Imagine: an autistic group survives the apocalypse!

Although apparently a bunch of rich people have bought a large area in Scotland and are turning it into a rich people's paradise. Sounds like a bunker to me!

I'm so sick of impending doom. I wish whatever is going to put humans out of their misery would just get on with it. :skull:
