I hope we get reports from our Japan-based members soon. I don't know the prefectures of Japan, but I hope we hear from them.

i hope that there will be very much footage of the wave taken by many people. i would imagine that a treasure trove of video files will emerge over the coming hours/days because most people in japan have a penchant for carrying cameras with them. it is good that it happened during the daytime.

i was surprised at how little footage of the 2004 tsunami surfaced considering so many holiday resorts were hit.

this tsunami seems to be being covered by the press as it happens, so hopefully the footage will be very resolved.

And tsunami warnings in Papua New Guinea, Guam, Mariana Islands, Indonesia, Russia- if you are in the Pacific check the internet for Tsunami warnings.

Also Asia too, ie China, Taiwan, other asian countries, keep an eye on the news for warnings.

Also now: A Tsunami warning for Australia. If you are in Australia keep an eye on the news for Tsunami information.

New Zealand is now included in the Tsunami warnings too. If you are anywhere in the Pacific, or Asia, keep an eye on the news for Tsunami warnings.

Also the Pacific Coast of South America including Mexico- watch the news for warnings.

We are actually preparing an emergency kit tonight, because Im worried about what else could happen.

Oh great, thats all we need now is a Tsunami here.

I'm watching live pictures now on BBC news channel: it's astonishing the destructive force of the tsunami.

For those WP members in northern Japan, I hope that you've managed to get to high ground.

I just think we should be prepared. Not panic, but I think it has been proved over the last few weeks that the earth under the Pacific is changing at the moment. We never can know, and I think we cant be complacent.

I am a little west of Tokyo. That earthquake was so big! It lasted for minutes followed by big aftershocks. I ran outside and the didn't even feel safe out there. While it was happening I called my wife, I was so worried for her and our baby back at home! She was telling me that she had never felt anything like this before. The powerlines were shaking. I watched the car next to me to guage if the shaking was still happening or not. After the it was over, I went back in to watch the footage on the TV. It was just devastating to watch the tsunami waters flowing in. The flooding in Sendai and the north is just crazy. The airport in Sendai was 1/2 underwater. The Toll roads here are all shutdown. The Trains are all stopped. I am still feeling after shocks, even as I write this post. As soon as the trains start moving, I am going home. It could be a long night!

I am in Christchurch, New Zealand and the news is just filtering through about the Japan earthquake and tsunami and we have just had a 6.3 magnitude earthquake here in the city causing major damage and loss of life and New Zealand has been issued with a tsunami warning for tomorrow morning around 6am.
Have just been seeing the pictures on the news and the tsunami has been destructive.
So it is very very scary!

i would think (edit: "would have thought") the wave may be most powerful here. (red arrow)

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by the earthquake. That said, Japan is a very resilient nation that always bounces back stronger than before.
