Tomorrow (Friday), Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. (Or 45th depending on how you count Grover Cleveland.) This thread can be for news items and commentary on the inaugural events.

This evening (Thursday) was the inaugural concert and fireworks at the Lincoln Memorial, featuring a grand performance of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, the great Republican anti-slavery anthem of the Civil War:

The swearing-in ceremony begins at 11:30am eastern US time.

Woo Hoo! This is my kind of thread! Mr. Darmok, could you post maybe some places online to watch the Inauguration for those like me who have no cable TV? I heard that some YouTube sites will be airing it live.

It should be quite interesting to watch. Ma told me that the Left plans on having a "cough out" where they just continuously keep coughing. What bright mind thought that one up I have no idea. I wonder if they will do it during Trump's speech.

Trump, Pence Will Be Sworn Into Office On Historic Bibles

(CNSNews.com) – Both President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence will swear their oaths of office Friday on historic Bibles used by former Republican Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced.

Trump will be sworn-in by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts using the same Bible that President Lincoln used during his swearing-in by Chief Justice Roger Taney on March 4, 1861.

In addition, Trump will also use another Bible that was given to him by his mother in 1955 when he graduated from Sunday Church Primary School at the First Presbyterian Church in New York....

Pence will be sworn-in by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas - who will become the “first African-American in history to administer the oath of office to the Vice President or President of the United States” - using the Reagan Family Bible. He will be the first official since Reagan to do so.

The Reagan Family Bible is on permanent display behind bulletproof glass at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California. During Pence's swearing-in, it will be “open to the same passage used during President Reagan’s two inaugurations,” according to the PIC.

That passage is from II Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

So far I think the wreath-laying ceremony was very nice, and the concert was decent. I like that it took place at the Lincoln Memorial. I think the weight of responsibility is starting to hit Trump. The fireworks were neat, even though the USA one was messed up a bit.

The waterworks is happening again. (Kleenex please! On second thought just give me the whole box!)

Not to rain on Trump's parade, but CNN has done it again! Are they trying to give a signal for someone to do something on Inauguration Day? I do not put it past them.

The exact wording of the oath of office taken by the president is specified in the Constitution itself -- it's the only specific oath the Constitution contains. In Article II, which creates the Executive Branch, it is specified that

Before he enters the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Franklin Pierce was apparently the only president who said "affirm" rather than "swear."
