The victims might have stumbled upon some kind of organized crime staging area for drug smuggling. But that sorta thing you would expect to happen on the southern coasts of Florida. Not something you would expect inland in north central Florida near Orlando.
Florida is very transient and attracts a lot of drifter's,maybe they ran into a serial killer,I don't know,it's hard to speculate.

Serial killers dont normally operate that way. They abduct you, and then take you home to have fun torturing you and dismembering you for twisted sexual pleasure. And serial killers usually go after women, or children, or young teen guys.
Sometimes adult men (like that real life woman played by Charlize Theron, or like Daumier). But again its usually one on one. They dont slaughter groups of people usually. But it might be that they accidentally stumbled upon a serial killer burying bodies of other victims. And got snuffed for being witnesses. But then why didnt the said serial killer bury THEM too?
I suspect that its a case of mistaken identity, or a case of innocent folks accidently trespassing or witnessing something. Maybe it was a still illegal pot growing farm they blundered into. And the owner thought they were leaf thieves, or were a rival grower. Who knows?
Or maybe ... the Florida Skunk Ape got 'em. Thats the local Florida version of Sasquatch.
