Or, should we learn from such imagery as the witness and evidence of wrongheadedness of the past? Has humanity suddenly overcome its need to remind itself of egregious mistakes and malevolent intentions? Such arrogance.

Hey Wrong Way Corrigan.....

That's exactly the point.

You are implying that a statue glorifying a Confederate figure is the same thing as the Holocaust Museum in DC, or is the same thing as preserving the many sites of local aspects of the Holocaust in Europe (like preserving Aushwitz).

They are not only not the same thing, they are the exact opposite things.

Statues of Confederates are not "history". They are bogus nonhistory. They depict men who were traitors and sanitizes them to make them out has patriots and heroes. So preserving them is not preserving history. Its preserving a lie that cuts us off from history.

Preserving Aushwitz, or the remains of a Soviet Gulag, or the like, is as real and as unsanitary as it gets.
Its the equivalent, not of a statue of Lee, but of an American museum that might exist that would preserves the slave quarters of an antebellum plantation.

Exactly dude. We want posterity to see Aushwitz. We don't want posterity to see glorius looking statues of Stalin, and Hitler.

Likewise here in the States- exactly- we DO want "reminders of the follies of the past" - battlefields, and museum displays of slave chains.

But DO we want statues that glorify guys who committed treason - and did so only so they could continue to own slaves?

You just made a great case that we should not want that anymore.

The Holocaust memorials honor the dead, not their murderer.
By the way,you folks in Utah did a good job at the memorial at Mountain Meadows, very peaceful. It was nice to see the Arkansas flag flying to honor the victims.I brought a rock from home to leave there.

When someone tries to ruin a country but fails, they are called traitors. When they succeed, they are called democrats.

Mate! I don't see statues of Hitler or Goebells in Berlin, do you?

For the record, it would be nice if China eliminated all of its Maoist imagery.

... but how would we achieve that? The government of China is undemocratic, much like the American corporate sector. They don't care about what anyone says. Triggering a populist uprising in China is equally unrealistic because the Chinese internet is heavily censored. It would be awesome, but it would be damn near impossible at this point.

That's the real reason why liberals almost never criticize China. Most of us don't like China. Most of us hate it ... but there is nothing that we can do about it.

Meanwhile, the West is democratic to a certain degree. We plan to use that democracy to change the world as much as possible.

Another myth that leftists are sympathetic to China. The Green movement has long been banned in China because of China's record in relation to conservation, environment and treatment of Tibet.

Your posts and threads have taken on a decidedly trollish demeanor. Well, they've always leaned that way but more so lately since the Trumpmeister got elected. Not that it bothers me one iota since I find trolls more amusing than disturbing.
Keep up the entertainment.

You do know that trolls are responsible for tipping people over the edge resulting in a spate of suicides across the globe. I wouldn't be so proud of boasting about such a reputation online

Show me were I said I was a troll. I double-dog dare ya. That aside, trolls aren't responsible for anything. If someone allows a troll to have that kind of influence on them it doesn't say much for their strength or character.

Think someone is a troll or a cyberbully? Easy, just don't read their posts. That's right, just skip over them. If you're so neurotic that you just HAVE to read what they write in case they might be talking about you then maybe it's time to cowboy up a little and get a life off-line.

So basically, what you seem to be saying is,
if you are offended by a statue,
don't look at it?

My, what a concept ...

Wouldn't it be nice if conservatives took this attitude and applied it to gangsta rap?

Don't like it? Don't listen to it! What a concept!

You did say you i) you don't care if people think you are a troll and ii) enjoy having the label which taken in combination suggest you don't mind the label (which is what I was saying)

They contribute, I don't think anybody disputes that

Yes it's funny they take "umbridge" over many things said by minorities then expect others to take their slurs "like a cowboy"

Remember the nineties? Back then, the conservatives were trying to ban gangsta rap, violent video games, heavy metal music, D&D, Magic: the Gathering, Harry Potter and everything else that they considered "Satanic".

"WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN??? CHILDREN ARE GOING TO SHOOT UP THEIR SCHOOLS AND THEN BURN IN HELL!! !"

Has the right moved beyond that crap?

If so, that's nice ... but I won't let you forget about your ugly past.

Yeppers, it applies to statues and even flags.

What do you think of those "Christian conservatives" who still hold onto "morality" and hate manly music?

They're lame eh?

I'll be glad when that type of conservative is finally dead. Those guys were even worse than the modern Trumpite trollpublican MRAs.

Can we all agree on that? :D
