Obviously, the attack on Palestine proceeded from there. Talking about Palestine would make sense in this particular thread, and the OP has done so himself. If you are concerned that other groups haven’t received enough attention, why not start a thread about it? It’s not that people should be talking about Palestine or Ukraine less. It’s that more attention should be given to other groups. In the particular culture I grew up in, I usually knew what was going on in the world as far as genocide is concerned. I heard more than was appropriate for a kid, but that’s off-topic anyway.

By the way, my son can identify Sudan on a map. He learned about that stuff in 6th grade geography in public school. This year, he’s studying world history.

There is just too much news in the world right now.

So I propose a new international law that the UN must enforce from now on.

We gotta ration things out. So...

Any nation wishing to attack its neighbor should take a number and just wait in line until your number is called.

If you just wanna commit terrorism (do a heinous atrocity and then just leave...like HAMAS on Israel or 9-11 on the US) you get a number ending with 1 through 2.

If you wanna conquer the land and enslave the people (Like Putin in the Ukraine, or Shih in Taiwan) you get a number ending in 3, 4, or 5.

And if you're out to commit either ethnic cleansing or outright genocide you get 6, or 7.

And if you're out to do regime change (like the US in Iraq, or the US in Mexico in the next Trump administration) then you get 8,9, or 0.

When your number is called then, and only then, are you allowed to do your thing.

And you have to complete the project in just one year. Then you stop your war, and then let the next person start their aggression when hearing their number called.

That way all of us consumers of news media wont get the "sensory overload" we have now and will have a manageable number of atrocities to keep track of in the news at a given time. :)

Thats my modest proposal.

Wait! this thread is about HAMAS terror attack on innocent Israeli civilians resulting in 1200 deaths.

You now say that "Talking about Palestine would make sense in this particular thread" but on more than one occasion you also said Palestine does not equal HAMAS?

I'm afraid you can't have it both ways,

I’m not sure why talking about the consequences of the attacks and conflict would be off-topic. In any event, I am entitled to my opinion. The OP appears to be fine with talking about everything related to this specific conflict in this thread, including the horrific devastation and thousands of civilian casualties that are occurring in Palestine, since he has done so himself.

What are you talking about?

What "both ways" is she having?

Most of the population of Mexico is not involved in making fentanyl. So "the illegal fentanyl industry is not the same thing as Mexico".

But if the US decided to nuke Mexico to stop fentanyl it would perfectly okay to discuss the nuking of Mexico as a policy.

In fact the fact that most Mexicans are personally innocent of sending fentanyl to the US is...all the more reason...to question a policy of nuclear genocide against them.

Not sure what you are going on about? China is the primary source of Fentanyl into the US, Not Mexico.

I dont know how you can live on planet earth and still be that ignorant.

China sends the precuser chemicals to Mexico. Gangs in Mexico make the finnished fentanyl and run the pill presses and send the finnished product to the US. Every news outlet talks about it 24/7...especially now that Shih is visiting Biden.

Several GOP candidates wanna invade Mexico. And we have thread about it in PPR.

Funny, you sure look like a baby rattlesnake right now and I can't risk you biting anyone. I'm glad you understand why you need to be liquidated.

Good thing you're not man enough to do it.

I wish I was man enough to kill and not let it bother me, does anyone know how I can get rid of this moral dilemma.

Although I fully understand this to be a snarky comeback aimed at the person you're quoting (whose comment, of itself, is perfectly sensible, and I say this despite the fact that I have usually disagreed with most of what that person says), the truth is that you and I are exactly alike in that regard.

The other way we are probably (given some assumptions on my part) exactly the same is that neither of us has been in combat nor led a country at war. Across the world and throughout time, the "usual" moral rules no longer apply in that situation. To confidently say that this one fairly isolated situation in Gaza is THE time and place for those rules to suddenly start to apply (because those being judged are Jewish?) is a pathetically weak argument.

International humanitarian laws should always apply. People have been highly critical of wars and the way they were carried out in the past. War crimes and the extensive slaughter of civilians are never okay and one doesn’t need to have experience with combat to state that. Just because certain atrocities weren’t given enough attention in the past doesn’t mean we should disregard what’s happening to Palestine now.

I do not factor in religion when I judge the actions of a country, and I doubt others in this thread do either. We just believe in calling a spade a spade.

As I predicted the worlds attention has shifted from the original attack to plight of the Gaza residents. This thread reflects that. The original attack was over a month ago.

If you are a threads original poster you can request the mods change the title and unless you break the rules your request will be granted. In current event threads the situation usually evolves making the title dated. If I was the OP I would request to change to the title to “Mideast War” as there are other parties besides Israel and Hamas shooting at each other.

Speaking of the original attack.
Death count from Re’im music festival massacre reportedly updated to 364 — a third of Oct. 7 fatalities
Quote:
An ongoing police investigation into the Hamas massacre of the Re’im music festival on October 7 has updated the death count to 364, which would make up nearly one-third of all of those killed during the onslaught in Israel, Channel 12 reports.

Forty attendees of the festival were taken hostage into Gaza, the investigation finds.

The security establishment’s current assessment is that Hamas was unaware of the music festival in the lead-up to the massacre, Channel 12 reports.

I really don't see the relevance if Hamas knew about the festival or not, a war crime is a war crime, regardless of opportunity.

Snakes don’t bite unless provoked or stepped on and most people get bitten while trying to stomp them or doing something stupid like sticking their hand where they can’t see.
Bad analogy.
Maybe don’t mess with “snakes” and you’ll be fine.

Please, try to keep to the topic.

A thread about Hamas activities cannot sensibly exclude related discussion of Palestine/Palestinians, and for anyone having difficulty with separating "Hamas" and "Palestinians" - they're two distinct entities with some crossover.
