NOT GOOD, Connecticut shooter was diagnosed with Aspergers..
3,300,000 are diagnosed with autism, Aspergers is autism lite, there are a lot more of them, and counting all traits, Broader Autism Phenotype, it reaches more than a quarter of the population.
So it does seem they would be some of the problem.
I recently came upon an article about serial killers, which included two in my state, recent, less than a hundred miles from me, that I had never heard of.
They did not make the local news when arrested and convicted, and thinking about why, I recalled another case, the I-55 killer, who dumped bodies in the swamp off of an elevated long bridge. The press pointed out how there was no one out there at night, how close it was, then bodies started showing up that could not have been dumped by the same person.
Serial killers are no longer reported, till they are arrested, because news reports lead to copycat killing, making it look like the work of the serial killer.
The I-55 killer was never found, but in the two cases not reported, good police work and no press, lead to arrests and convictions. I agree that the public has no right to know, if that knowledge produces copycats.
The orange hair guy was made famous, the people he killed ignored, and the press keeps bringing it up. He did it, he was caught, he will be convicted, he does not deserve fame. The public would not be in more danger from not knowing.
This was a normal murder-suicide, with a media twist, gaining a black fame on the way out. He should not be given star status, because that is what he wanted. The shooter is dead, ends it, he should not have a name, any press, like the orange hair guy got.
I think media drives copycats, like their Ted Bundy coverage, which likely leads to other serial killers. He did not shoot up a school because his mother might have worked there, he did it to get his name and face plastered all over the news cycle. The press delivers, which will only lead to more.
Those that died are reduced to just a nameless part of his story.
While Louisiana does not lead the nation in much, and most years has the highest murder rate, and the City of New Orleans does too. So just maybe they do know something about murder, and not giving out information on ongoing cases, the I-55 killer, which leads to copycat murders that could not be the the main killer.
Since then they have tracked down three other serial killers, convicted them all, without letting the press run the show. Even then, it was not on the news, the killers got no fame, no name, just life in prison.
In the last one the last girl that got killed was the story, her name and face in the news, when the killer was found, he was connected to two other murders, and he lead them to her body. He was never the center of attention, the news stories treated him like the garbage he was. Even the news did not use his name, they just called him the murderer.
If they want fame through mass murder, that is the last thing they should get.
Press on the mall shooter, the movie shooter, is what lead to the school shooter. Two out of three are dead, the third seemed to want to be dead, the press gives them fame for killing themselves, and taking others with them.
They are dead, or caught, that is all the press should report.
International fame is an incentive to gain international fame.
When a man stabbed 22 school children in China, the press reported a man stabbed 22 school children and was captured. I do not recall they used his name, picture, or explored his childhood. He will be tried, and killed.
The children injured, the families, neighbors, of those who died, do not need news trucks parked in front of their house, and AP and HuffPost calling on the phone. They are in shock, grief, and should be protected from ever seeing the face of the murderer who ruined their lives, killed their love, and left a dark shadow on the lives of a whole nation.
We cannot stop killers, we can deprive them of fame.
mr bachmann's better half was beaten by our ex-governor.
my young nieces and nephews wanted barack obama to win
and he did. my old high school got torn down and the town
had a new building put up in its place. john odgren's trial had
its own controversies, and someone leaked his medical records
from the time he was twelve years of age. In 2oo7 young odgren
had knifed to death a 15 year old freshman named james alenson.
this incident in connecticut is going to take years to be over, the
reaction is only starting. our FBI has started to fact find. i had the
remote possibility of being called up for jury duty in 2007 but wasn't.
Not good. This case will probably strengthen the prejudice against Aspies... at least for a while.
But it will fade away eventually. After all, the majority of crimes are committed by NT persons

One possible scenario of issue would be say possible false accusations by police, would not be picked up and rectified by the media and community, if no publicity was present....
I dont think media coverage re Lanza will harm aspies overall, I believe correct publicity may raise the aspergian profile, in a good way, and prevent this occurring again.
One sure fire way of these shootings occurring again would be to keep doing the same thing as before......
Same publicity and same real time avoidance of the aspergian condition, and the continuation of bullying and its accompanying cultural problems. If we fix that we fix a lot of spree shootings
But, it will be buried in a couple of weeks and back to 'normal'..... till the next one
Maybe it's time for everyone to casually be armed at all times; then when some random ding dong wants to go out with a bang and take innocent lives with him, he can be stopped by lawful citizens.
If police can't be there instantly, all they can do is pick up where the massacre left off. There wouldn't have to be a next time if we all were armed.

I hate the comparison as well. Some people have tried to convince me to cut my hair and such, because it reminds them of the unibomber, since he kept to himself, and kind of dressed shy. This makes me pissed off. Instead of getting their ass in a twist about this, why not realize that we should reform our mental health system? I think the only thing most people will gather from this is to ban guns, and not reforming our system and banning these big pharma killers (ritalin, Prozac, etc.)
That's not quite right... many (white) people already panic when they are near a black man, and black men are often already regarded as being potentially dangerous.
The media cycles through various diagnosis when some idiot does a horrific act.
About 30 years ago, it was Schizophrenia.
Then came along substance abuse and Bipolar disorder.
Now, if you a fairly young, white guy, and go human hunting, it's Autism.
When I first heard the news, I was like, dear God, I hope it isn't Bipolar Disorder. When the media bounce around the idea of Asperger,, I was really FML.
Because-
Fior was having his "maybe you might be able to go back to work" meeting, with his company yesterday. This after being off work for two years. The description of Lanz is almost my husband to a T. His meeting was a few afters after the shooting. The company psychiatrist said, he will never be able to go back to work because of his lack of people skills. There is (supposedly) no job for him in the company.
BS.
That shrink has always thought my pale, loner husband, will one day come back and shoot up the place. A co worker made a few statements to that affect, All untrue. He never has owned a gun. We don't have them. I guess the psychiatrist didn't want to sign off of him being stable on the day, another supposed Aspie mowed about twenty children.
In the big scheme of things, Lanz supposed Aspieness, won't mean much. It will in the work place though. The company Fior worked for, always felt uneasy about his lack of people skills (which he did not need in his previous job there), lack of "co worker bonding", and making people uncomfortable by not fitting the NT role.
Had Fior been Bipolar, I know he would have gotten back into work by now. It isn't his lack of work skills that won't let him work, but that white, loner male, who now has an Austim diagnosis that is keeping him out.
I know, because I was off work during a rip roaring, crash and burn mania episode. I mean flat out border on psychosis. Because most Bipolars could sell ice to Polar Bears, and are "charming", my job was kept open. The boss called to see how I was doing. Blah, blah, blah.
Fior is less "crazy", but with the stereotypical white male, work place loner who snaps and shoots up the work place, he will be placed on disability retirement. It stinks.
In case you all didn't know, just a few days ago, in Casper, Wyoming, another boy diagnosed with aspergers shot and killed both his parents too. (I'm starting to wonder if since so many have been diagnosed since the early 1990's with some for of autism, that this is the end of the world as we know it).

I'm gonna get called crazy, but this shooting is a false flag. The kill ratio is simpy way too high, what is it, like 95% kill rate? For a kid with handguns? Then you have the initial reports of a second shooter.
Look up MKULTRA....
The best way to handle this situation is to relax and not let paranoia rule the day. Chill out, eat some oatmeal, listen to some good music or watch a favorite movie (hopefully a soothing one of some kind.) No need to let irrationality take control...Whatever will be will be and each and every one of you can handle it.
Ok IF we are so smart I suggest WE use this oportunity and the platform we have been given...... be taken advantage of!
USE your ability to communicate to whom ever however you are able and lets shout about being ASD. Give interviews!
I predicted he was AS and had shot his mother an hour into the story hitting the air here in SW England about 12:30 EST.
I am 20 yrs married to a newly diagnosed Aspie, second child of a disfunction household headed by an elementry OH School Teacher mother who over- mothered!
I get so angry about the misconceptions here in England (far behind and almost serviceless). This lack of empathy thing seems to get mixed up with sensitivity inc my shrink who is charmed I know what her state of emotion is and she gets me to tell her each appointment!
I just want the Media subject to be about mental health issues and NOT choice of weapon when melted for the LAST time.
He did not kill little children he just killed and killed and killed.
Mom divorced 3yrs, Dad with new life and wife elsewhere. Mom devoted to her little school children??????
Blame issolation and computers for companions. Visual stimulation that calms the brain........ but shootem up games for hormon heavy red=necks with time needing wasted.
I blame electricity!

Have you even been in a kindergarten size class room lately? It would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Most kindergarten class rooms have the desks in clusters away from the door. The teacher's desk might be up front. Our class rooms have no outside door, because they are right up in front of the building. The children just leave via the hallway, and walk right around the corner outside to their little playground.
Also, the doors in our building are HEAVY fire doors. All my old 4s and 5s can just barely get them open. And when panicked, little kids that young just run, run as in not thinking the best way to get out.
So if the Shooter, took out the teacher, blocked the doorway (and it seems like he had previous experience firing the gun/s), between the direct hits and the ricochets, sadly, it is very possible.
Also remember, at least in our school, when we are in lock down, we stay in the class room with the door locked. But one can shoot off the lock/knob and everyone is in there. Not a lot of places to hid.
My school went into a lock down, when a dementia patient was running around with an deer rifle on the playground. It is the most terrifying experience. I was in a smallish storage closet with 24 kindergarteners (and two had LFA), and the librarian. We told the Kindies they had to be brave, quiet and fierce. Heavy emphasis on QUIET. Fierce because we said Pokemon are fierce and brave. Okay, maybe that doesn't make much sense, but it kept them all silent for that long 30 minutes while we were trapped in there.
My heart is just breaking typing this.

People will forget eventually. That is the way media works: as soon as another crime they can cash on happens, they will suddenly forget about the latest one.
Also, the event is not having repercussions in Brazil, at least. It was mentioned in passing, but our press is more worried about killings closer to home.
Damn, I hate the press. They are supposed to show the truth, but they prefer to follow the Scarecrow's MO and just spread irrational fear.

DISCLAIMER: It should be noted that, while I strongly suspect I have Asperger's syndrome, I am not diagnosed. Nevertheless, my score on RAADS-R is 186, which makes me a pretty RAAD guy.
Sorry for this terrible joke, by the way.
That's not quite right... many (white) people already panic when they are near a black man, and black men are often already regarded as being potentially dangerous.
I remember when the Virginia Tech shooting happened, some of my Korean family and friends were being pretty mistreated in the waking aftermath. Holy moly, was the media emphasis on the shooter's race or country of origin really that necessary? Well this is exactly how idiotic the media can get. And from what I understand there has been some terrible misreporting on this particular shooting in the past 24 hrs wrong shooter name and everything. Unless you can show beyond a shadow of a doubt that this shooter has or was diagnosed with Asperger's, I am losing my tolerance with the heinous media. Let's throw a bunch of stereotypes in that may hurt the innocent people who represent them. That's good reporting.
I kind of regret selling off the weapon collection that I started now. I originally started it for the purpose of defending myself, just in case the Aspie haters turned violent, but I later decided that I had no use for weapons and got rid of them. Now how am I going to defend myself against the Aspie haters when they come to lynch me? Well I guess it shouldn't be a problem, I can always go see my psychopathic acquaintance with the weapon collection and buy some more. Too bad he doesn't have any guns, I don't think swords and knives are going to be sufficient enough. I can also talk him into being my bodyguard for cheap money. It makes me feel a little safer having a guy like him as my ally.
