Aww you guys

I think I'm just a random weirdo, marooned in a kind of Stepford village where I don't fit in...

Yes London is busy but the rest of England is not. The news reports are exaggerating in order to turn us against 'foreigners' and 'immigrants.'

Britain's population is about 68 million. Immigration in 2022 was 1 million according to Reuters. This includes the unprecedented numbers of Ukrainians due to the war, and Hong Kong British nationals, who were invited, so it was a higher year than normal.

I wish I had seen the countryside. It was not my choice to go to London, it was just free. And I had always wanted to visit another country. We were able to see some very historic places, the Lion King and Benny Hill's statue!

Most of the London area is not THAT crowded. Only the tourist sites.

Essex is busy. Too much traffic, too many people, too many houses, not enough room. Living in rural areas is only affordable if you're rich. Working class people like myself can only just about afford to live in small apartment buildings in the midst of all the crowds, noise and pollution.

What I'd give to live in a cottage surrounded by fields and trees. But you can only afford to live like that if you have thousands, if not millions of pounds.

Why do they make housing so unaffordable in the UK?

I dunno, but if it's any consolation it's as bad or worse in Canada and it's not like we're all out of land/space or anything - we just can't build housing fast enough for population growth via immigration. Especially since tons of homes get bought by investors and no one lives in them.

It's still possible to live inexpensively in small towns, though. If you're willing to live small town life way away from any of the major cities people can still actually afford to live. But you have to want to live very small town life and be able to handle long snowy winters.

But to live where people Want to live? It's ridiculously expensive - just like London.

i believe that if i were inclined to change my gender, even though i felt no identification with my existing gender external and internal bits, i'd still feel a bit of guilt in getting rid of them, like i got rid of a body part/s i was born with and am i doing the right thing by permanently eliminating them?

Yes, I wish you had seen the countryside.

London is a very unrealistic example of English people and life. Most places in England are slow, quiet, not much happens.

Watch that series 'Detectorists' if you want to see what real English life in the countryside is like. We are reserved, non confrontational, have strange hobbies. We aren't all posh or drunk or cool or Cockneys. Not at all.

We live in a small village. We definitely do not have thousands or millions of pounds. There is a dark underbelly of small country villages, believe me. It is cliquey, unfriendly, uncaring and lonely, and there is crime. I think people in towns/cities are more openminded and friendly. In villages, if you weren't born here, you are not welcome and you never fit in.
