The basic instinct to “stick together, right or wrong” doesn’t work for me. (Call me an Aspie.) If I stretch my mind to the limit I can kind-of understand the knee-jerk reaction. As a conscious philosophy, I can’t. It is the ultimate base of all group and government immorality. It doesn’t immediately occur to me to argue against it because I don’t really get it in the first place. I just don’t have those buttons. I need to analyze and systematize what the rest of the baboons do instinctively.

Why do people blindly follow leaders who hate them, degrade and oppress them and kill them as easily as one would swat a fly? Because they want to believe the fantasy: that the swatted one, the marginalized unfortunate, was not one of US. The powers-that-be have to love US because we are loyal and true. That’s the rule.

Newsflash: The current powers-that-be don’t love any of us. It’s not just that they don’t love New Orleans or Iraq. Can you say 911? They don’t even love the guys on Wall Street. If they’re willing to sacrifice them for a cheap PR stunt, what chance do you have? Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever your label or identity group, you are no more important than your counterpart in Pakistan or China. Just so much cattle, to be managed and exploited.

Love or hate the current President? It doesn't matter. They don't love him, either.

That's just the trouble. You are not allowed. Why do you think everyone hates us so much?

(We are not a disease. We are the cure.)

Steelback,
Thanks for posting that speech, it was good to hear.
:salut:

Those of you that live in the U.S. and are ashamed of it need to leave and not come back.
I realize we have issues but my idea of what's good and bad is NOT the same as yours.

The coupla times I went to Canada, I found the people surprisingly friendly (except for Customs, but unfriendly Customs officials are a universal constant...;)

I don't have anything against Canada; and it's gratifying they don't hold the 2 invasions we've done (wonder why the British burned Washington in 1812...you know what they say about payback..;). The other, the Fenian invasion in the 1860s-70s was tool small to count...;)

Thank you for now slapping us with the broad brush that we seem to often get. We do get things wrong every now and again, but at least they can be discussed without fear...

appreciate it.

The U.S. and Canada buried the hatchet over a hundred years ago. It is all in the past.

It is possible to be patriotic and not like traits about your country at the same time.
(me not american BTW)

Its weird when people think you hate your country when you don't agree with the government's plans.

Personally, I'm deeply ashamed to be a US citizen.

So am I. The U.S. should have kicked ass after the successful end of WW2 and instituted the Pax Americanum. We should have become the New Rome but we blew it.

In their day the Romans built the best roads, had the best clean water supplies, and the best waste disposal systems. On their roads the wagons and chariots rode on time. Their soldiers were the best and no one (when Rome was in its prime) fooled around with the Romans. The Romans united 1/6 of the Earth in prosperous trade and commerce. Looking back on Rome at her best, I get in touch with my Inner Fascist.

It was all going fine until Mr. Jones started drinking. Before he started to get drunk and neglected the animals he was in full command. He wasn’t completely fair but at least he was wise and knew how to manage a farm. It all started to unravel when he began drinking too much. The animals who felt neglected started to get organized and ousted Mr. Jones. As organized as they may be, never the less, the animals were ignorant. Even though they chose the pigs to lead them the pigs did not know how to run a farm either and did not know much more than the rest or the farm animals. The pigs were corrupt, callous, greedy and unwise. Ultimately the farm was even worse off than when Mr. Jones was in charge. This is what happens when the farm animals take over a beautiful farm like The Jones’.

we shouldn't have let them win their independence.. :P *hides*
see how peaceful Australia is comparatively ;)

I am sick and tired of hearing how evil the sates are from the world and also sick and tired of of hearing how great America is from Americans. My only problem with america is how they have stolen billions of dollars from Canada's forest industry and now all the small towns of British Columbia are dying because of it. Oh ya, And all the American guns killing Canadians. But other than that they are okay I guess ! ! I am proud to have Canada allied to the U.S. Maybe the U.S. should teach a little more World history instead of so much American history in school.

Please don't comment on America's education system encouraging patriotism. If anyone at my school was successfully indoctrinated from what was taught in history class, they would have had to walk out with a mighty knowledge that America never did anything but nuke the Japanese, enslave Africans, and steel land from Mexico.

Thats what i'm talking about. I don't mean it as an insult in any way however, I'm not an American and my country doesn't "Indoctrinate" our kids into hating America. I'm quite sure that the Europeans don't "Indoctrinate" their kids either. All I was saying is that your country's current image problems around the world stem from your people's misunderstanding of other country's cultures and history.
