He died reading the paper this morning. He saw that wal-mart was advertizing boys' pants half off and his heart couldn't take it.

The guy was a legend though, most people are comparing him to Elvis =/ Oh well, it's kinda sad though, he could've lived longer if he had led a more balanced life. But i guess depravity and the odd family background does that to you. =( (i'm not a fan or anything, but i still think it's sort of sad) Stay tuned for the coroner's diagnosis, i wonder how many drugs he had taken. o.O

Personally, I never liked the guy. I mean, he was ok and all until he got that weird plastic surgery that made him look like Caucasian transvestive, and after the whole pedophilia thing I really thought that he need tp be put away somewhere quiet and not be in the camera's eye all the time. But still, he was a major icon of my day (if only as an object of many jokes), and I'm sorry he's gone. Besides, Thriller and Beat It are two personal favorites of mine.

Thriller was allegedly the best album ever in recent years, 108 millions sold....stayed at the top for 37 weeks... (listing what TV said btw). And i suppose it was a first, but he was one of the rare artists that could combine dancing AND singing so well. You hardly see that nowadays.

Comparing him to Elvis is absurd. His music was never that good - his Jackson 5 era was the best. 32 years from now people won't be listening to Michael Jackson songs like they do today 32 years after Elvis died. I remember best what we said back in the day:

I pledge allegience to the flag
Michael Jackson is a fag
Pepsi Cola burned him up
So he switched to 7-up.
(for the younger folks, his hair caught on fire during a 1985 commercial for Pepsi from fireworks.)

Heard on radio & found it all over net. If he was really just in a coma (not as bad as dead), news casters, etc. will look really stupid.

In grade 2 he was like god to the kids at school... his name always mentioned, his name, couldn't stop hearing his name!

(back then i would have disapproved of using the word "kids")

The Elvis link is apt - in that his best work had been long ago before his death and he was in obvious decline... there were reports that he was slipping towards death's door through the last few months. It's a question of what he did in the past, and yet he is still a major star for that... like was Elvis. And like Elvis his death was premature and he developed a reputation for eccentricity.

As for his music not being as good as Elvis', I agree but that's not what makes a star.

It was unfortunate that Michael suffered the fate of many who accomplish their biggest successes early in life, and were never able to duplicate it. He recorded the biggest-selling album of all time in 1982, and everything after that was a desperate attempt to recreate Thriller. I always believed that if somebody could have talked to him before that, when he was making songs like Rock With You and Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, his life could have turned out much better (by that I mean not freaky-weird). He was a hero to many, but sadly, too many of those were stand-up comics and late-night talk show hosts.

BTW, the UK Sun is reporting Michael had just been injected with Demerol at the time of his death.

Even though Jacko Lantern was a strange, strange man, he made some great music.

He was, as far as I'm concerned, the greatest music artist--hands down--who ever lived.

As a child, I had no real interest in music; no music could "penetrate" that barrier...except for his. "Beat It" quickly became my favorite song, and to this day still is.

I could care less about the allegations of child molestation, as it's the artist I love. The man's personal life is another thing--and yeah, he needed help.

But the artist...he was the best, and no one could take that from him.

I'm no fan of Elvis, as someone mentioned him; I like one or two of his songs, and that's it.

And btw, Elvis was no saint either. Womanizer, alcoholic, and overloaded on drugs; his death wasn't exactly a Kodak moment in history, either.

I agree that he was a strange man. He made great music and i liked his dancing too.

I think he will be remembered for this music career rather then his weirdness.

Michael Jackson must have been one of the most fecked up people on the planet. He had it all on the outside, and less than nothing on the inside.

Dysmorphia, pedophillia and heaven knows what else...he didn't even seem to know how to be human...let alone how to grow up.

But, there was something about him that always went on trying to be the best person he could be, despite not knowing how, and certainly not needing to.

I am not sad he is at peace...for MJ, old age would have come as a cruel and unusual torture...

But I am sad he had to live such a messed up life.
