I think if you break the safety rules and shoot a person, you shouldn't be allowed to hunt anymore. At most, he should only be allowed to go target or trap shooting at a range with a certified Range Safety Officer present. He should have gotten a fine for hunting without having all his paperwork in order first as well.

So you advocate taking his guns away from him permanently?

I think the media is going way overboard with this incodent. I am not a big fan of hunting. In fact, I wrote a card to our headmaster when I was in 4th grade who was accidentally shot in the leg as a result of a hunting accident, saying that he should not have gone hunting in the first place. It was a typical Aspie response that sent the headmaster into stitches. However, be that as it may, let me say just one thing--I would rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy.

Of course they are the media are the mass distraction market. They revel in creating false moral panics

I agree. There are lots of hunting accidents every day. Hunting is dangerous, and you should always treat your gun as if it's loaded at all times. I think there would be a lot less media coverage if it would have been an average person who shot another average person; hunting is still dangerous, whoever you hunt with. It would really suck having few million people knowing who you are, and then you have an accident, and then seeing your face on almost every single channel ever being laughed at. That would definitely not make my day, or week, or year, or maybe a lot longer...

One wonders where his bodyguards were during this incident, imagine being one of the secret service assigned to Dick during his next hunting trip.

I guess his campaign contribution wasn't enough.

Kind regards,
Chris
