He's apologizing because public figures, the same people society puts high up on a pedestal, and whom we give preference to over most, are supposed to be infallible. We turn these ordinary people (sportsman/woman, celebrities etc) into superhumans and when they eventually fail, we wonder why. As they say: "You live by the sword, you die by the sword."
The media gives these people so much attention and praise, but when they slip up, they go in for the kill. I suppose it's the price to pay for being famous. Somehow society believes that all famous people don't do stupid things.

I think people love to put their heroes on a pedestal, but they love it even more when they fail. There is something about a person "falling from grace" that people just eat up. I don't really understand that concept.
I don't know much about Tiger Woods because I hate golf LOL! But from what I know about his persona, it was spotless. With all that has been said that he did (and I frankly don't care) it was the exact opposite from his persona.
What I find interesting is some of the comments I've seen on other sites (pop culture is a special interest

) where people....mostly women....voice their hatred (as in they applauded his wife for allegedly beating him) towards Tiger Woods for cheating on his wife. I don't understand that. I can maybe understand being diapointed in someone....but not HATE a person. His actions have no effect on them. I just don't get it.
Sorry for rambling
